Pi 4 not wanting to boot LibreElec from SSD

  • Hi Community,

I tried writing LibreElec to a SATA SSD using the usb sd writer, and connected it to my pi via a usb 3.0 to sata adapter.

The pi doesn't want to boot the LibreElec install, despite me writing the usb boot firmware, and the Pi managing to boot other OSs from the SATA SSD just fine.

Does LibreElec support being booted from an SSD on a Pi 4?

    Thanks.

  • LE boots just fine from USB 3 attached disk.

I had similar issues with some of my USB 3 - SATA adapters.

Some worked fine with Raspberry OS but refused to start with LE.

Another adapter (same brand) works just fine with both...

    Just to mention:

I bought few different, both cheap-ish and some others from both Amazon and from AliExpress with very different results:

    All images written with 'Rufus'.

Some 'no-name' adapters only works for storage, not for boot at all or just act very weirdly.

  • After reverting the firmware to SD boot, and trying to boot libreelec from SD, it still won't boot libreelec for some reason. I am using the LibreElec writer with "Raspberry pi 4/400" selected, and my device is a 2gb Pi 4.
