Best practice to install LE19 to existing multiboot system

  • Hi,

Im running a HTPC with one SSD drive, containing a LE, Ubuntu and Windows partition.

Now what's the best practice to "upgrade" from LE 18?
In your news you clearly state "** DO NOT UPGRADE! **"

Is there a way to reinstall the LE Partition without disrupt the Ubuntu and Windows partition and the grub bootloader?

    1. Make a backup via LibreELEC-Settings and save it outside of the HTPC.
    2. Replace the KERNEL and SYSTEM files with the new ones from Ubuntu or Windows.
    3. Boot LE with fingers crossed.

PS: there is neither LE 18 nor LE 19 ;)

  • Now what's the best practice to "upgrade" from LE 18?

I usually am in Ubuntu (my daily driver), mount the LE data partition, go via terminal into the .update folder, and do a wget updatefile.url (I copied the URL from the LE test website), and let LibreELEC update at its next boot. This is the way I upgrade test builds. Stable builds are done via LE internally. No fingers crossed needed.

  • Thanks for your quick replies.

Misstook LE with Kodi version. :S

Just wanted to inform, I did a Clonezilla of both the system and storage partition, did a dry run via an upgrade of LE 9.2.6 installed on a usb stick and also on my HTPC it went flawlessly!

Have to say I just use the Hyperion and minor stuff from the official repository like key remap...

It only said InputStream Adaptive is not working anymore, but had no problems so far.

    Thank you again!
