Basically, this is a user decision. R/W operations on SD cards are fundamentally slower than running the system from the internal eMMC. In addition, in the case of some boxes, it is practical experience that even the real MAC address of the Ethernet cannot be determined if you boot from an SD card, it is only recognized correctly during internal boot.

However, if you still need the original (in most cases Android) system, then I do not recommend this step, because it will be overwritten, and then you can only restore it if you have the original ROM. In many cases, Android on the internal memory is no longer supported, so there is not much to lose there. But, as I said, this is a user decision.
