Realtek 8811BU Wireless USB 3.0 dongle. Supported?

  • Just bought one of these Wi-Fi dongles for my Rock64. When I boot LibreElec there is no option in Settings/Network for wireless networking.

    Isn't this device supported?

Can any kind soul instruct me in how to get it working?

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • AFAIK these are not supported. They are not impossible to support, but we have a long-running policy of ignoring requests to add support for more Realtek devices that need out-of-tree vendor drivers that are poorly written, poorly maintained, and usually break with each new kernel release (the novelty of hunting down patches wears off over time). That's probably not the answer you're loking for, but that's the situation.

  • This works. I tested it on my Libreelec.

This device is too slow for receiving HD sattelite signals. It needs to be 11ac mimo for my situation. The above one is the only know device currently for me. Is there any other supported device having external antennas (at least two) and 11ac, as the Realtek one?

I know their drivers are bad but i would like to give it a shot anyway. I got it working on my linux- pc here compiling with dkms. Can i somehow "extend" libreelec by delivering the compiled modules to me/the community?

Where to start? I am new to libreelec...
