Hello everyone, I'm looking for help with a raspberry PI 4
I have just installed my new raspberry Pi 4 with libreelec 9.1.502
When I try to read a film (mkv through smb) kodi crash every time.
I noticed that when I disable hardware acceleration MMAL, Kodi won't crash, but instead, my CPU load is very high, and the raspberry overheat quickly.

I've tried to duplicate your issue but cannot get any sort of crash. I played a .mkv file over SMB without issues.
I have a feeling it may be the way the file was created/decoded that is causing the problem, Can you provide a snippet of the offending file (IF LEGAL) so we can try and duplicate the issue.
Yes: If you disable H/W acceleration, then it is decoded in S/W and thus the CPU has to work a lot harder - and WILL get hot,

Actually, I had this problem with different files.
Sometime, it happen in less than one minute, sometimes, it's longer (30min)
Before the crash, I have green artefact on screen, and freeze, before the complete crash
Maybe it's simply a hardware issue from my Raspberry PI4?
Badly encoded media is badly encoded media. The solution is to re-rip/encode your content from your original media. If you can't do that because it's some file you stole from a torrent network .. you also have an answer.
