This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU - Pentium M without NX bit not viable?

  • So, a friend ask me to help him install Libreelec on his old Compaq which has a Pentium M Banias CPU. I've booted the LibreELEC-Generic.x86_64-9.1.002.img which according to the name includes 32bit as well. But I'm getting this message: This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU. What can I do?

  • x86_64 does not imply 32 bits, it's the name of Intel's 64 bits architecture. The only way to get it running would be to manually compile LibreELEC as 32 bits, which would require quite a lot of hacking (I know because I've done it before). RPi for $35 seems like a better option.
