Possible to run LE 100% from a USB stick?

  • Can LE (Linux 64-bit) be installed to a USB stick and run from it? Where can I find the actual img file the wiki shows under the manual section? I would like to just use the linux util "dd" to put that right on a USB stick and boot from there, but not to install to physical HDD. When I browse to LibreELEC Downloads – LibreELEC I am only seeing links to the USB_SD creator.

  • download and install the USB_SD creator, run it, insert a usb stick in your pc and choose which version to install ... easy easy

  • Yes, but expect bad performance. USB port / stick speed can be a dramatic bottleneck when dealing with videos.

Running LE from a usb stick shouldn't have any implications for video playback. What might well be noticeable are things like slower scrolling through the library as images are slower to load from usb.

If the videos are on usb it doesn't matter whether LE is installed on HDD or usb, the bottleneck will be the same.
