No signal on HDMI screen after changing screen resolution and power on the next day

I've just installed LibreElec for the first time yesterday evening on my Raspberry Pi 2 and set screen resolution. Everything was fine until I powered on the Raspberry this morning, I get no signal on screen, but SSH and the Web interface are working. How should I fix this issue ?

My screen has standard DE-15 connection and I'm using an DE-15 <---> HDMI switch to plug it to the Raspberry Pi 2.

I have tried the last dev build of LibreElec and I still get the same problem, when I select my screen resolution, I get no screen signal after power off the Raspberry and boot it again. Is it a known bug ?

What is the make and model of your "screen" ?

What resolution are you using ?

I tried with three different large screens from different brands, but I realized that my problem may not come from the screen itself by doing the following test :

1. Install the officiel LibreELEC-RPi2.arm.8.2.5 on a micro-SD card (32 GB) using the Mac OSX app.

2. Boot the Raspberry with this new LibreELEC system.

Result : It boots normally and ask first boot questions.

I didn't answer any question and just unplug the USB power supply and replug it in order to reboot the system, but then I get a black screen, no signal anymore.

Where could this bug come from ?

Probably the big fleshy thing that pulled the power cord out of the computing device without shutting it down first? You'll get away with that sometimes or even most of the time, but never all of the time.

The big fleshy thing also did the test to answer first boot questions and shutdown properly, but the result is always the same : impossible to reboot, I could never get a second boot.

Only reinstalling the system allows me to boot.

After the LE installation you'll start with an untouched "guisettings.xml", which seems to work fine. After the first boot the "guisettings.xml" will be updated with a "videoscreen.whitelist" (see XML tag inside the file) fitting to your screen. I think that process fails.

To test my theory, do this:

- make a fresh LE installation on MicroSD

- copy the untouched "guisettings.xml" from MicroSD to your PC

- boot the RPi with LE

- power off RPi by shutdown menu

- remove the MicroSD card and plug it into your PC

- copy the potentially corrupted "guisettings.xml" to your PC (verify it, and maybe post it here)

- replace it by the untouched original

- try to boot the RPi again

It could end up having a DE-15 <---> HDMI issue.

I finally fixed my problem by uncommenting the following line in config.txt :

hdmi_force_hotplug=1

I was going to try your solution as well but I couldn't find the file guisettings.xml on the MicroSD card.

It's in STORAGE -> .kodi -> userdata.

I just have a lot of bcm*files, one "overlays" folder and some other files, I can't see any hidden .kodi folder.

I'm not familiar with Mac, but maybe there is an option to see hidden files at the file manager.

I'm using the terminal, and "ls -la" doesn't list any hidden files.

I finally accessed my faulty guisettings.xml via ssh, it's in the attachment.

What should I change to fit my screen size (1920x1080) ?

That looks like the untouched version, because "videoscreen.whitelist" is empty. If it's not stored in the ".kodi" folder, than it's just the template, not the version that LE actually uses. That's why I think changing the file doesn't makes sense. Where does it come from, what's the path in LE? If you don't have the ".kodi" folder, updating "guisettings.xml" can't work.

PS: Use Etcher to install LE on MicroSD. It's possible that your current installation has been set wrong read/write permissions, and ".kodi" can't be created when LE runs.

@Da_Flex please stop offering bogus "use Etcher" advice to users. The tool used to create the USB/SD media cannot result in different permissions for the /storage/.kodi folder because this folder does not exist in the .img file - it is created by scripts during first run.

Yes, I just want to help, that's no bad thing. We are still in theory mode. A ".kodi" folder has to be created at the first run of LE, right? If the permissions don't allow to create the folder, it's a possible cause. Feel free to post your theory about it.
