[SOLVED] Crashes with new Raspberry 3B+

Hello cummunity!

Unfortunately I have big troubles with my new Raspberry 3B+ and LibreElec (8.2.4 and also latest 8.2.5):

several crashes/permanent freezes during video playback or other operations like movie library update. I did the 8.2.5 Update

30 min before and sadly no improvements; the bugs are still there!

Any suggestions? (with Raspberry Pi 2 LibreElec was very stable)

PPS: no /storage/.kodi/temp/kodi_crash.log present

Try to add some voltage to SoC and/or RAM in config.txt (e.g. over_voltage=4, over_voltage_sdram=4).

A few RPi3B+s seem to be suffering from stability issues, the RPi folks are busy working on a solution for that - see this thread on the RPi forum: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups - Raspberry Pi Forums

To make checking for that issue easier we included memtester in LE 8.2.5. Please run the following commands and let memtester run for a coupe of hours

systemctl stop kodi
memtester 512M

If memtester reports an error it could be worth trying one of the suggestions from the RPi forum thread. One suggestion is to add the following 2 lines to /flash/config.txt

arm_freq=1200
sdram_freq=450

Then reboot and check with memtester again.

Edit: most importantly, even when using a recommended power supply, it's always good to check if it performs as expected. Run the following command:

vcgencmd get_throttled

If you get anything else than 0x0 you have either a power or temperature issue.

Please upload a kodi debug log. Without logs it's hard to tell what's happening - it could be anything (some addon, some custom configuration you made, a faulty SD card etc).

Testing with a fresh installation on a known good SD card without any addons installed would be a good idea.

Also: when the RPi locks up can you still ssh in?

I would suggest formatting a new/different SD card and installing the latest version of Rasbian.I would also suggest using the Pi as you have been, but without the DAC plugged in. To see if that DAC could be causing issues.Are you installing any additional software on the device? If you are, maybe trying using the Pi without the software installed to see if you can identify what is causing the crashes.What happens when it does crash? Does it just hang/freeze or does it shutdown? ShowBox VidMate Mobdro

For information only: I exchanged my RPi 3B+ with a new one and voila no more issues!

So I hope the Engineers of the Raspberry Pi Foundation will find the root cause of the problems!
