Try enabling the "Wait for network" in the LibreELEC Settings Add-on, set it to 30 secs for slower devices like the RPi. And reboot.

If there is something available, it will be through the Milhouse builds.
As far as testing for Linux goes, according to the Phoronix website some 1-2 days ago, Raven Ridge requires the very latest of "everything" in terms of Linux kernel and drivers . I don't think that Milhouse is that far already.

and go back to home screen
How do you do that? I use the Backspace key to go back in menus, and everything works as per design when entering the Addons section again.

A clean installation will eat up 512MB system and some 0.5-1GB of storage files.
What's the rest for on your 8GB box?

Is Settings / Media / General / Show "Add source buttons" enabled?
'Add network location' should be available anyway when using the "Browse for new share" window, looking for a new video source.

Get us a full Kodi debug log via pastebin, or other download website.
Our crystal ball is not capable enough to read full log files.

The rules on sharing LibreELEC code/releases have already been clearly communicated to your Tanix colleague. And yes, those rules apply to you as well. Dumping your executable(s) via unverified MEGA download links onto our forum and without any Github basis or documentation is not certainly not acceptable.
Just follow the rules like everyone else. It's not that hard.

Each profile has its own global settings. Try setting the Kodi's GUI settings level to 'Advanced' or 'Expert' for full menu options.

Devices with Kodi pre-installed are 999/1000 the boxes that Kodi got (in)famous for...
Not that many of them offer a clean installation.
Supported devices at the moment for LibreELEC can be established via the download page. They contain ready-to-go images. Installation on a Intel x86-64 machine will require two steps. Unfortunately we do no know how the htpc world will look like in 2-3 years.
However, some configuration or setting up LibreELEC/Kodi is still required. Different people, different needs.

Smooth or not, a Raspberry Pi's GPU was never equipped to decode "High [email protected]" videos. With lots of trickery it can perhaps come a long way, but transcoding a 10bit video on a 8bit RPi GPU is not an optimal combination IMO.
