You can run clonezilla from a bootable usb stick on your pc, you can then create an image of the media player to your pc, over LAN

then restore that image again over the network to the other device.

ps, never tried it myself.

The easiest way, is to install libreelec for your model of media player, on to a microsd card, then with the correct device tree add it to the sd card, as you seem to have done.

With the sd card plugged in, you hold the reset button in on the device, at the same time as plugging in the power supply, after a few seconds release the reset button

IF you have a correctly burning image on the sd card, it will boot into libreelec.

If you remove the card, your device should reboot to android. IF you have not corrupted the stock android image

If it doesn't boot to libreelec from the sd card, try a different device tree.

Forget about android, until you get libreelec booting

As a workaround, copy all of your folders, using coreftplite or similar. Get your friend to make a basic installation of kodi, then overwrite the folders with your folders.

Bear in mind, if you have a library of your media, on say a NAS it will be wrong.

Your could try using clonezilla or similar over the LAN

Depending on the SOC, choose the download you want from here.

The device tree depends on what RAM & what network you have ie 100MB or 1000MB

If you follow the instructions, if the microsd card is plugged in, it will boot to Libreelec, if you remove the card, it will boot to android.

If you install to sd card, there is an option in the (kodi) menu, to boot to internal, ie android.

You can install puppy, knoppix to a usb stick & run from that, IF the device will support that, you might then be able to install to the internal, not sure though.

As for installing a Linux distro & then kodi, I'm not sure there is much support for that now.

Choose the build you want from here then follow the instructions

as per instructions, just install to sd or usb.

When you are completely happy, you have to ssh into the box, then run the command installtointernal some devices require you to do this twice

bear in mind, it would be best to backup/get a copy of your box's firmware, just in case you ever want to go back to android.

in my experience, installing to internal was no quicker than running from card

if I remember correctly, you need to copy your old remote.conf to the new version.

Sounds to me like a ssd problem. You could try to use clonezilla to clone to a new disk, as backup.

Then reformat or zero fill the ssd.

As for storing & playing from the nas, you just need to remove media sources & add them via the network. using nfs ( I am not at home at the moment, but if you want more guidance about how to setup the synology nas just say)

With the work, being carried out on this particular device to get Libreelec working. I expect the number of sales to increase, do you think it would be a good idea if the manufacturer donated to the Libreelec project?

Perhaps, if when people purchased this device, they said they were a forum member, a small donation could be made by the manufacturer?

rosede, I am using nordvpn, you have to select user defined. I have nord server config files saved to a location on my devices, & point the config to that folder
