They are build semi automatically, but they need ~6ìsh hours to build + delay due schedule so there is some delay.
Normally you can expect a day delay after merge it is at the repo.

There is, telling this for years, a integrated browser for Kodi in the works that reaches the point it could maybe finally happen "soon" (K21).
The problem with booting into a browser is how you want to control this etc, then you quickly need a mouse and keyboard to make anything happens. Booting into chrome could be done today rather easily, but the overall usability is limited without shipping a real desktop or some replacement with it.

That are longstanding problems that can be related to several problems depending at hardware, network and what phase of the moon are we in.
The usual easy fix is to record to matroska (no reencoding, just the container format to matroska) and you are done.

you can try to manually adjust the patch that it fits to the different xmbc base but I do not think this is easily done

otherwise you could open a ticket at Tvheadends website, but likely this won't happen (as development stales)
