Thanks for the reply. I'll look into CoreELEC than.

I have 2 MECOOL M8S Pro devices running LibreElec 8.2.3.1 for a few years now. They are rock solid and provide almost everything I need.
The latest version I have running is with Kodi 17.6 and this works pretty well except for the Jellyfin addon. The latest version cannot be installed anymore.
I cant seem to find any updates for the S905. Are there any?
If not what simple device is recommended nowadays?
Hmmm that's really strange than.
Because I have 2x M8S Pro+ devices, one for downstairs and one for the bedroom.
The one in the bedroom does not have this problem at all...
Both are running the latest Android build provided by Freaktab forums.
M8S Pro+ OEM firmware (20171128.111200.V0928)
Would it make a difference if I install LibreELEC to internal instead of SD?
Anyone that can help me out?
I'm running the latest v8.2.3.1 LibreELEC by kszaq on a M8S Pro+ (SD card install) connected to my 2012 Samsung ES6710 TV.
If the M8S is not used for a while and I power it on and power my TV on afterwards I do not get a signal from the M8S.
I can put it on HDMI 2 input but the TV says no signal and I have to reboot the device before it's working.
This is from a complete shutdown and sleep/standby in LibreELEC.
I've read some links about editing the config.txt file but this is all related to the Raspberry PI.
I don't have a config.txt on /flash
Can anyone help me out with this?
Ok, cool.
I have some Noctua NT-H1 lying around here.
Would that be good to apply?
Btw what temps did you have before and after you applied the paste?
At the moment I'm running a x265 file (1080p) from USB stick and I'm around 46 Celcius (without applying new paste).
Could you please let me know?
Why would you want to NOT suspend network?
Honest question.
When I suspend/sleep the device I want it to be a sleep as much as possible.
I can confirm it's working on my Mecool M8S Pro+!
Going to give it a try kszaq
Many thanks!

Wicked! Sounds cool to me.
Gonna give it a go. Tnx for the help once again.
Is it ok that the M8S Pro+ does not have a proper heatsink "clip" to keep the heatsink in place?
I'm a bit worried if I apply new paste it will no stick properly without something holding the heatsink?
Display MoreThe best thing you can do for these cheap S905X or S912 boxes and dongles is run them for a while and then open them up and twist or remove the heatsink off the SoC. Then clean up the SoC and heatsink with something that does not leave a greasy residue, like electrical Contact Cleaner.
Most heatsinks look like they are just fixed on with some sort of Silicon which makes for pretty bad heat transfer.
Then simply get some 30% Silver (or better) thermal paste, you only need tiny amounts and use this Sandwich Wrap method for applying the paste:
How to Apply Thermal Paste - iFixit
Just did this yesterday to a MECOOL S905X that would get pretty hot, especially when using Android and it now runs 10 - 20 Degrees C cooler as a result AND I can increase the GPU Mhz for a snappier, smoother LE Kodi user interface !
Some LE Temp monitoring tips:
SSH Login and....
and I use this for the GPU:
W.
I was thinking about re-applying the thermal paste on my Mecool M8S Pro+ but the heatsink seems to be a glued.
Can I just remove it of will I break stuff?
Also can you explain what the GPU command does exactly?
I have LibreELEC running perfectly on my M8S Pro+ device (2GB S095x) but I can only power down the device.
Is there a way to put the device (though LibreELEC) in standby (sleep) mode?
One more question...
Why not use a (fast) USB stick instead of microSD?
Any disadvantages of doing that? Or only because they are more expensive?
Thanks for your answer as well!
Though I have to buy a new microSD card because I don't have one spare.
So if you are in my shoes and new to buy a new card anyways.
Would you buy a cheap (slow) card and put the data on eMMC or buy a faster microSD and run all from that?
Cheapest microSD (4GB) I can get is 6 euro.
The Lexar mentioned above can be mine for around 13 euro or the Sandisk for 10 euro.
Ok, I read the whole thread.
I'll give a fast microSD a change.
Probably the Lexar one or are there any better ones in same price range?
Ok, cool. Thanks!
I'm in doubt:
Lexar 633x (LSDMI16GBBEU633A)
Sandisk Ultra 16GB Micro SDHC UHS-I (SDSQUAR-016G-GN6MA)
Thanks for the explanation.
With the symlinks you mean "[HOWTO] Boot from SD card, use internal memory for data"?
Or are there any other symlinks I need to know?
At the moment I'm convinced to not install to internal eMMC and use a microSD.
But I don't have any lying around so I'll have to buy one anyways.
What will be faster -> slow SD with data on eMMC or ultra-fast class 10 SD card?
