point is, 'adapters' itself is not the thing you should be using at all if there are other options available - you only use that when there is no other native option available. You can say it's a different work ethic but the that's in principle. but agree with you that 300 Mbps should be enough but most of the USB adapters fall back to fast-ethernet mode if connected to a USB2 port. I think S905 doesn't have USB3 support?
That is the case, there is no other option available for S905X (and some S905D has only 100Mbps LAN too). None of the S9xx boxes has USB3.

I have a very large number of 4k (and 1080p as well) collection with 24/32-bit audio stored on QNAP and an USB gigabit adapter is not the thing you want for this if you don't have USB3 port.
It is just wrong.
USB3-Gigabit adapters work fine with S905X boxes. You can get more than 300 Mbps which is more than enough.

I have a s905x box, splitter, Onkyo TX-SR606 AVR and TV.
Made a modification of the hdmi cable from the splitter to the AVR.
On TV I watch HDR content and AVR is playing TrueHD and DTS-MA.
You are very lucky with your AVR. It has only HDMI 1.3 connector but fortunately can get the audio from the much higher bandwidth signal.
My AVR has HDMI 2.0 connector but no audio if I send HDR (with masking the DDC pins).

Same here. Unfortunately H/K has no new HDR capable models.

None of the AVRs supports HD audio on ARC (Audio Return Channel). The tv boxes have no ARC on HDMI they only send the av data.
HDMI 2.1 will bring eARC which will support HD audio.

I resolved problem putting a strip of tape over HDMI pins 15 and 17.
On the picture you can see example of tape strip over pin 19.
I would prefer software solution.
Maybe something like disp_cap in /storage/.kodi/userdata but for edid and hdr_cap.
If I mask out pin 15 and pin 17 between the splitter and the AVR then the AVR has no sound and the video signal from the AVR has strange purple color tone (everything is purple where the original color is black).
Without the splitter (which is 18Gbps capable HDMI 2.0b compatible) in the box-AVR-TV setup there is no HDR signal on the tv (4k is fine) but get HD audio on the AVR.
In the box-TV-AVR setup there is HDR signal on the tv but cannot get audio not even the core DTS on HDMI ARC or optical cable to the AVR.
I cannot get HDR and HD audio together.

No, it isn't. You can't watch a UHD BD folder structure with 100mbit.

Amlogic s905x or s912x theoretically support 4K HDR, but not on LibreElec (see here, "4K support is experimental. 3D and HDR are not supported, i.e. they might work but I don't provide support.").
It is simply not true. 4k HDR is working on LibreElec. Period.

This tells me that the issue is specific to me, and other people aren't experiencing it. I'm starting to suspect that I have a bad MINIX U9-H unit. I've ordered a replacement on Amazon to see if a hardware change makes the difference.
I've read something here that Minix boxes have different audio then the normal S9XX boxes so they need special dtb...

I don't have my atmos speakers yet unfortunately hopefully within the next 5 months.
Why do you worry about right now? You have 5 month to do something else...
(If you have any multichannel PCM audio track or multichannel flac file then you can change the audio output to 7.1)

I'm using passthrough. The word "non-passthrough" doesn't make sense for me.
If I play an 5.1, 192kHz/24 bit flac file then my receiver shows Multi channel PCM, 192 kHz, 5.1.
If I play a movie with an 5.1, 48kHz aac audio then my receiver shows Multi channel PCM, 48 kHz, 5.1.
The sample rate is correct every time with every value.
