After two weeks of running LibreELEC on my MECOOL KIII I must say I'm quite satisfied with the results already. Yes, there is the random crash every 3 days or so, the slight screen distortion when navigating too quickly and CEC navigation feeling a bit less fluid, but that was to be expected and, while not being perfect, the device is perfectly usable. Many thanks for all your effort guys! Great work.
There is, however, one thing that does concern me a bit: the temperature. While CPU usage goes all the way down after seeing a movie (no more than h264 1080p), I rarely see the temperature drop below 78 degrees Celsius. This makes the box, and especially the metal tuner connectors at the back quite uncomfortably hot.
What is your experience with the temperature? Is this acceptable? Can I get it down some what somehow?
I played the same movie through a USB stick and I was still getting frame skips and stutters. The movie plays fine on PC but when played thru Nexbox / LE it was stuttery.
What does that tell us please?
This tells us we are back to requiring a log and the info from reply #3.
Ok I have a logfile of a 2 minute 1080p video I streamed.
To my eye I noticed several frame skips and jumps in the 2 mins.
Hope someone can decipher all this info please!
Online streaming and through WiFi on top of that...
There are so many places where this can be causing problems here.
The only way to determine the cause is by starting with the basics and rule out factors step by step:
In case of the last two items you'll need to start with testing from a 'reliable' streaming service (YouTube?) before switching to a 'different kind' of source. If the problem starts with the latter then we'll probably won't help you any further.
Either you work the list up until the issue begins or down until the issue disappears and tell us your findings.
Also, streaming by WiFi isn't the most recommended solution. There could be different reasons why that would cause problems as well (protocol, interference, etc.).
You didn't state that you actually tried playing from an SD card so please try playing a movie from SD or USB drive to at least rule the WiFi connection out.

I am new User and using Mecool KIII Pro I add files to usb on the following method
I download the following files
8.0.2a-experimental (2017-05-28)
Downloads: Index of /s912/8.0.2a-experimental/
Device trees: Index of /s912/device_trees/ ( gxm_q201_3g.dtb) I am using wifiafter doing all process my screen showing like that
Kindly help me what to do?
Now you wait until the process is finished. I don't see what the problem is besides that you didn't wait long enough yet.
Please use the dedicated KIII thread for follow-up problems/questions: [8.0.1k] LibreELEC 8.0 builds for KIII Pro (S912)
Make sure you use the device tree from the third post of that thread.
There are no longer any page links in the list of threads. Because of this you always need to open a thread first before being able to go directly to the last page. This is at least the case on my mobile phone. Where showing links to all pages is overkill, going to the last one directly is quite efficient, on mobile as well as desktop.
I have noticed the same freezing when watching live TV. Had to revert back a couple of versions to have it stable again.
It would be more helpful to know to which version you had to revert to.
What are the differences with the op version? Is it possible to add this improvements in the "original" version?
As the message states, as well as the post before that: it is a test version with just a fix for faster channel switching...for you to test if it works properly. If you test it, your feedback will help to decide if the fix can be included in the regular builds.
Another test version for faster channel switching:
LibreELEC-S912.arm-8.0-8.0.1-devel-20170517142818-g6e79ad4-I.tar
I'd love to start testing but I'm still waiting for my S912 to arrive, I expect it'll will the beginning of next week. I just wanted to thank you for your continuing efforts already though.
Thanks! Is this because of the dvb tuner or is it s912 chip+libreelec related?
S912 chip+LibreELEC related, see the first post in the thread for more information.
... Sorry for the unrelated question ...
That would be the obvious clue to start a new thread instead of discussing something unrelated in an existing thread. And in this case, yes, it is something completely different. Not starting a new thread makes it very hard for all of us to keep track of things and/or filter those things not important/relevant.
Oh yeah shoot i thought i read kII pro instead of kIII EXCUUUUUUUUSSSSEEE me...
It was off-topic either way.
Does the KII pro support dvb-c?
Completely off-topic, create a new thread for that (but not according to the specs: KII PRO T2+S2).
On topic: thanks for the feedback. I took the risk and ordered a Mecool KIII Pro (S912). So count me in as one of the testers soon ![]()
Hi,
After happily using Open/Libre-ELEC in combination with a RPi for a long time, I'm now looking for a solution to add a DVB-S2 tuner as well. During my search I discovered the KIII Pro at the same time I found USB tuners to connect to my current RPi.
It all makes me wonder: why would I opt for a RPi+USB-tuner combination while a KIII Pro gives me an all in one solution with better specs for roughly the same price as a separate USB-tuner I'd have to buy?
The only reason I can think of is the much larger community around the RPi, with this device getting much more development and tuning attention compared to the KIII Pro.
What is your opinion? How stable is the current situation with LibreELEC? Will I actually experience a significant improvement with the improved specs despite a much smaller development community?
Personally I'd prefer to go for a clean solution, getting rid of Android completely, just having LibreELEC running the show. Will this be possible?
There's mention of the lack of fbdev Mali libraries at this moment, but is this a matter of time or is there no way of telling if they will get released? Apparently it isn't a problem for the previous generation (S905/S905X), assuming the libraries were released for those as well.
