I've got a Mecool M8S PRO+ S905X and it does all I need (h265, streaming from my NAS) and all that for £30 on Ebay. (Although it only has 2 USB2)

You could look at rtcwake which although is not in standard LE, it *might* be possible to just copy it from a Ubuntu or other X86 distribution.
I've copied the file from Raspbian to a RPi3 LE system and it appears to run - so it's probably a standalone file requiring no extra libraries.
However, I don't have an X86 LE machine to test it on.

/tmp/systems/systemd does not normally exist in LE. However, it can be created, but as LE is a RO system any changes to that folder will disappear after a reboot.
Whilst *this* malware seems to be closed it won't be the last. So it is therefore important to only use *Official* addons.

Great to see that imx6 is coming back....hopefully the GC2000 restrictions are limited that the my cubox-i can continue to run libreelec
Not until LE10 and that is still a "maybe"

Without knowing what
on other machine ( I have an S905 2GB/16GB machine)
is there is no way to answer. My crystal ball is currently broken,
-
I guess you could try with a /storage /.config/system.d and set a timer and service rule but as your machine is in "suspend" I'm not too sure it will work.
Your link to setwakeup.sh doesn't work
-
As with all new hardware it's impossible to say what will or will not work without actual testing. In practice it *should* work, BUT no one is going to commit to an answer unless they have the actual model and confirm it works.

You can look in /storage/.config/system.d for a systemd service file
or
start via Autostart
or
use Thoradia add ons and forget Docker and systemd to run transmission - don't know if it can run with openvpn.

This Thread seems to suggest that it is working on LE.

Try using the official alpha LE9, 8.9.004 image and report if there is still an issue.
-
I'm not too sure but I think this box/tuner may not be supported - even though it seems to work, or the image/dtb combination is causing the issue.
Can you provide the output of
cat /storage/.kodi/temp/kodi.log|paste
and
dmesg | paste
It "might" show an issue, but I'm not optimistic.

There are many S905X boxes from A-Z and not all are the same.
Unfortunately the only solution seems to be try the original dtb file and then work through the different dtb files to find one that works. I'm using glx_p212_2g.dtb on my Mecool S905X 2G and it works perfectly.
Start reading from Here and looking at This. Also using the search function will help.
I also assume you renamed p212_1g.dtb to dtb.img?
-
What image are you trying to use and what dtb file are you using.
Do you get an error message?
-
How are you installing it?
Port 9982 I think is the https port whereas 9981 is the normal port
-
If you just want to upgrade, have you set in Settings --> Libreelec --> System, Set the upgrade channel to LE 9? and then choose 8.9.004. Or are you only on ssh?

VMWare is for development and Testing only - it is not supposed to be used as a live system.
If I remember from using an ova on vmware, after you have expanded the storage to the new size, you'll need a boot live CD (Ubuntu, recovery CD or whatever) and add that to vmware as another ISO. Then start VMWare and press the boot key <esc> <F1> (Can't remember) and then boot into your live CD. From there use GPARTED to resize the LE image to the new space.
Shutdown, remove the LIVE CD from VMWare and start it again. It should show the new size.
As to why it didn't install in the first place, my first thought is your USB flash drive - try another one.
Also what is you hardware and software (32 or 64bit)
...and finally.

I’ve found the response on the forum so far to be a little bit disinterested so far, which is disappointing for me as it was my preferred OS...is not going to make you any friends.
