Does LibreELEC support Lanczos3 - optimised upscaling?

  • Hi everyone, Ive been an openELEC and now LibreELEC user for some time, but I wondered if LibreELEC supports Lanczos3 - optimised upscaling? For some reason I only have 3 upscaling options, auto, bilinear or auto bob or something. I used to have more options. It might have to do with me using a dp port to hdmi 2.0 cable to my tv (in order to get a higher refresh rate on 4k) instead of the HDMI I used before.

I use a custom build pc with a i3 6100 cpu and I use the 6100 aswell for video and I use passthrough for audio (dp)

Any help or info is greatly appreciated :)

  • I guess you use LE 8.1 ?

If so the "better" upscalers are still there if you try to scale SD -> TV.

They are disabled if you try to upscale HD -> TV because they are basically not working correctly (lack of GPU performance).

  • Thanks for your answer, I'm indeed using the latest LE, I wonder are they not working because os the lack of my gpu performance, or the performance of the current gpu's in general when upscaling hd to 4k.

And how does the upscaling from LE/kodi compare to upscaling used in receivers or tv's?

I'm trying to wrap my head around the different techniques used and what quality they provide. :)

  • Support for HQ scalers at 4k resolutions has been patched out because the upstream Kodi developers got fed-up with seeing bug reports of things not working .. due to a lack of GPU performance. The patch is not very democratic because higher-end Intel hardware can sometimes cope, but that hardware is only present with a tiny minority of users.

  • First of all, thanks for answering my question. Well if it's true that only the high end intel hardware can do the job properly than I can understand the choice.

Just to be sure is it known what range of Intel hardware can HQ scale 4k resolutions? (I own a i3 6100t which certainly does not classify as high end intel hardware so I wouldn't benefit from the hq 4k scaling anyway right?)
