Stuttering Playing 4K H.265 Movies on my HTPC

  • Hello Everyone,

Long time OpenElec user, just switch over to LibreElec today on my HTPC & loving it, except for 1 problem - mentioned in the title of this post.

    My HTPC has:

    Core i3-7100

    Gigabyte GeForce GT1030

    8GB RAM

    LibreELEC Krypton 8.1 Beta

    TP-Link T9E 802.11ac

I've tried playing the H.265 movies off my network via my 802.11ac wireless network & the Intel GB Ethernet link built into my motherboard & the stuttering seems to be the same.

Any recommendations how to get smooth 4K playback on my new HTPC?

    Thanks!

PS: If you're looking for a great 802.11ac mesh/router - I highly recommend the Amplifi HD Home Wi-Fi System :)

  • Stuttering comes in many forms:

    - Big stutters / pauses

    - Many small(er) stutters

    - Micro stutters every 10/20/30 seconds

The only stuttering for the GT1030 I can think of (I have a GT1030), is running a 10 bit video on a Linux system. Nvidia drivers don't support 10bit video in Linux, meaning all 10bit video decoding is done via software. Press the letter 'o' during a video for details. in Windows, it's all fine...

All should be noticed via the already requested debug kodi.log file, whether it's a video or a network problem.

    Core i3-7100

If it's a video problem, Intel's Kaby Lake can display 10bit HEVC video in Linux by now. Take out the GT1030 and try the internal GPU with LibreELEC.

  • Klojum - thanks for the tip. So I connected the HDMI cable from my UHD Receiver to the HDMI port on my mobo & I am able to play 4K H.265 movies beautifully using the built-in GPU on the i3-7100, over my wireless AC network too. But now there's a different problem whenever I reboot or cold boot the HTPC. See attached.

I can usually get around this error by doing Control-Alt-Delete so that LibreELEC will boot. Last time it took 3 3-finger salutes. Any way to fix this?
