Migration from Openelec 7.0.1 Jarvis to Libreelec 8.0.2 Krypton

  • Hello

Since years i use Openelec on normal old PC with Linux as Multimedia System and it works like a charm. With the exeption of little problems with some addons. But for me as software engineer no problem. And I have to say, that i use some black addons to look the newest flicks for free. If you use black copys only for personal use, in Switzerland you don't have problems with law.

Addons = Python. Python is easy to use and there are a lot of great programmers on github that solve problems or help you to solve problems.

I read the publications of the Openelec developers and their problems with the development process.

After the main programmers left Openelec and fork the Opensource code to the new Libreelec system i was a little bit confused and decide to wait and see whats going on.

Openelec brought some Updates to 8.0.4. Libreelec brought some Updates to 8.0.2.

Libreelec says that the system is fully compatible with Openelec.

My question: Can i migrate Openelec 7.0.1 with the normal update file from Libreelec 8.0.2. ? (Yes or No or maybe with problems)

Thanks for your answers in advance.

    Cheers

    Roli

  • Hello chewitt

Wow twice no answer because I was to honest. But my question affects the migration from Openelec to Libreelec and has nothing to do with the addons.

Look, I pay my taxes and do not violate the law of my country.

But I understand your point and will respect the forum rules. (C below)

    Again my question:

Can i update from Openelec 7.0.1. Jarvis to Libreelec 8.0.2. Krypton with the Updatefile from Libreelec? (Yes, No, Maybe)

I will deinstall the banned addons, nop. More importend for me is my database with hunderts of payed and ripped DVD's and a stable system.

Will I receive an answer to my question or not?

    Cheers

I hope 'nop' means "no problem" here, instead of 'nope'. Otherwise your visit here will be a very short one.

We are not kidding about banned/blacklisted Kodi add-ons. Some are known to destabilize and alter main-core Kodi functionality, let alone the legal vs illegal side effects.

Can i update from Openelec 7.0.1. Jarvis to Libreelec 8.0.2. Krypton with the Updatefile from Libreelec? (Yes, No, Maybe)

Yes, but... With every major update (f.e. 7->8), there is a chance that new functionality will work differently, which applies to add-ons and skins. That's why the auto-update function will not auto-update to a new major version. Make a full backup first before upgrading to be on the safe side.
