DTS videofiles slow down RPI to a crawl. Any solution?

  • Hi,

    I have a RasPi B with LibreELEC 8.0.1

I sometimes get h264 video files with AC3-DTS audio. Whenever I try to play one of these files, playback isn't smooth because the CPU is overwhelmed.

Is there any way to make playing these files work smoothly? I don't have any fancy AV hardware so I can't do passthrough. I'd need the raspi to do it all.

Video is HDMI, audio is analog stereo via the jack. Overclocked at 950Mhz.

An RPI B is simply not powerful of decoding audio via the CPU.
One option: use MKVToolnix to remove the DTS audio stream, so the AC3 stream remains. (You'll need a proper PC to do that.)

PS: Doesn't your TV support DTS audio?
