Raspberry PI Green Storage LED Blinking

  • Hey,

i was just wondering about the Green Storage LED on the Rasperry PI.
With my Setup its constantly blinkling (about 1Hz). It all works perfect, so its just a cosmetic issue.
Normally this means write acess to the SD card, which would not be good all the time.
Or does the LED have some kind of other Function on LibreELEC?
Could find any Information about this in the Forum or Internet.

    My Setup:
    Raspberry PI 3
    Samsung 32Gb Evo Plus
    LibreELEC-RPi2.arm-8.0.0

I found a way to disable the LEDs, but I'm more curious about the function/purpose of the LED.

    Thanks
    Chris

  • Hi Klojum,

    thanks for the quick supply.

I'm using a Samsung 32Gb Evo Plus, its one of the fastest cards available. See attached stats from CrystalDiskMark. (I will add this to the first post)
I only added about 100 Movies for testing and it was still blinking after 2-3 hours. So I doubt that it was still doing some caching.

  • Adding movies for the first time can take a long time, even after scanning has completed as it has to extract codec information from each file.
Your best bet is to install LE addon System-tools and use nmon from ssh to see what is actually happening - cpu, disk I/O etc.

Have you checked /storage/,kodi/temp/kodi.log? for any clues. Post log file if you cannot see anything obvious.

  • Thanks for the comment.

I installed system-tools and looked at some values. (c and D, see screenshot)
It shows no traffic on the Disks, but the green LED is still blinking?! Any other values I should look at?

    Here is kodi.log

Couldn't see anything obviously wrong here either?

Could a be something special with the Raspberry PI 3 in contrast to PI 2?
The LED is blinking very constantly (not like write acess to the SD Card). Just like someone programmed it to blink once a second...
