USB Thumb drive write protected

  • I have used the LibreELEC USB-SD Creator on a couple of thumb drives. Now I want to use these for another purpose. I can't remove the LibreELEC boot partition using the Windows 10 Disk Manager. I then tried the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool and it gives a "Device media is write-protected" error. I remember using this tool successfully in the past. Any ideas on how to un write-protect the thumb drives or other tool to re-partition. One of the drives is a Sansdisk Cruzer 8GB and the other is some generic brand. BTW they both worked to boot/install LibreELEC. Thanks.

  • is there a physical switch on the thumbdrive to switch it to read-only?

No switch. But I got the drives working by using the free version of EaseUS Partition Master. I just deleted the existing partitions and re-created the ones I wanted. Thanks.

  • One thing should be mentioned that LibreELEC USB-SD Creator should not be running when some other program is using the device. This is because Creator is refreshing devices every few seconds.
