[RPi3B+] Firmware for LE 9.2.8

  • I just picked up a new Raspberry Pi 3B+ from Amazon to mess with 3D Blu-Ray .iso playback and it'll only work with LibreElec 10, 11 & 12. If I try 9, 8 or 7, the green light on the Pi long blinks 4 times, then short blinks 7 times. This is apparently a power issue, but I can confirm this is definitely working perfectly with 12.2.1.

I tried different MicroSD's and I also tried extracting the .iso and using different software to image the MicroSD, but it's always the same result. Is this a known issue, or did I just get a defective Pi?

Edit: I just confirmed it also works with v10 & 11. Supposedly 9 is required for 3D Blu-ray playback though, so I'm still trying to figure out what's going on...

  • Ahh, I forgot all about that. Thank you! Do you know the exact version I should use? Seems like I should just be able to close Kodi, then run an update via the command line while plugged into the network - Pretty easy I think.

  • Take the bootcode.bin, start.elf and fixup.dat files from the FAT partition of the working LE12 installation and copy it over the files on the FAT partition of LE9.2

    so long,

    Hias

  • It was even easier than I thought:

    - Image the MicroSD with v12
    - Copy the bootcode.bin, fixup.dat & start.elf files to my PC
    - Image it again with LibreELEC-RPi2.arm-9.2.8.img
    - Overwrite those files on the MicroSD before putting it in the RPi
    - Boot as normal to 9.2.8

That's it! Thanks for letting me know about firmware rev!

Ha, I didn't see your reply until after posting. Thanks so much Hias - As always, it's much appreciated!

Are 3D movies playing ok for you? I was using an RPi 3B before and it was working great, saw your article and thought I'd grab an RPi 3B+ for the faster network speeds. Almost all of my movies play for a few seconds and than freeze, updating a frame every few seconds. I originally tried the fw files on your article because it wouldn't boot with the original fw files and then I tried the files from the very latest v12, which seemed slightly better, but still having issues on most of my movies.

Interestingly, my RPi3 B has the same freezing issues when using new fw files, but is perfect with the original fw files that came with 9.2.8.

Wondering if there are FW files that will work properly with my RPi 3B+
