Jellyfin server issue

  • Sort of at the point of giving up. On my RPi 4, the Jellyfin addon hickuped and supposedly lost videos. Via SSH, I confirmed the videos in question were still vaid. Furthermore, when accessed by Kodi, they play correctly. So running down the rabbit hole, I ended with uninstalling Jellyfin and all of it's config. Then doing a fresh install of the Jellyfin Addon. At this point, I am unable to log into the jellyfin server as root. Jellyfin keeps on giving me errors. When I select the server icon, I get this error: We're unable to connect to the selected server right now. Please ensure it is running and try again. (even after rebooting the RPi and confirming via SSH that Jellyfin is up and running). When I select Add Server and input the IP address of the Jellyfin, I type in 'root' and the password. Jellyfin gives me this error: Invalid Username or Password. Please try again. The Use Quick Connection gives me a number but no information on how or where to enter the number. Help Please!

  • The Fix for RPi:

    1) Uninstall Jellyfin addon from Kodi and delete all configuration files (uninstall process will ask you).

If you have an external hardrive with media, unplug that drive from the RPi as well.

    2) Reboot Kodi and install Jellyfin addon.

    3) Reboot again and then plugin any harddrive with media.

    4) Access Jellyfin with a remote web browser. Jellyfin should present you with the initial setup screen. Log in your access credentials (user name & password) and set up Jellyfin from scratch. Make sure to add the library and file path information to the revelant media directories.

  • And one other item to add to the fix, try different browsers. I found that the Brave Browser (with it's latest version) might not allow you to connect to Jellyfin. (Since Brave is based on Chrome, I presume that Chrome will be the same) -> some background info, Kodi, Jellyfin & Libreelec are running on a RPi on my internal network. I'm accessing the RPi from a different computer (which we will label alpha). With this arrangement, if Kodi & Jellyfin are running on the same computer as the Brave browser, then Brave will access Jellyfin through the "local host" IP without issues. However, Brave Browser running on 'alpha" will refuse to connect to Jellyfin running on the RPi. This is a browser issue, not a Jellyfin or Libreelec issue. If I use a different browser on 'alpha', I can easily connect to Jellyfin.
