Timidity needs some serious work to be considered viable

  • I am not the first one that complains about Timidity being so wonky in KODI. And since the addon is found in the LibreELEC repository and not the KODI repository.

Basically it either works and plays MIDI files fine or it doesn't and skips through an entire folder filled with MIDI, but the problem isn't just there!

Its cranking the volume way past 11, I'm talking cranked up to 500 when using a soundfont like Timbres of Heaven, to the point of causing some serious audio clipping, that makes it impossible to enjoy MIDI files.

And while I'm complaining about MIDI being really wonky, FluidSynth fares better but if you have the name scan option enabled, some files ends up making KODI reboot for no valid reason whatsoever. If you disable that option then every MIDI files plays fine, but you can't do 10 seconds skips anymore.

  • Since it's a binary add-on it needs to be compiled and published by the distro that provides Kodi, hence it's in our repo. However the correct place to report an issue is the add-on support thread in the Kodi forum. Or if you are capable of providing an insightful issue report with a decent amount of technical detail, the GitHub issue list for the add-on.

NB: You should consider that these add-ons are niche and likely haven't been touched in a while or are another unmaintained bit of the Kodi codebase (about 70% of Kodi features have no assigned maintainer). Whinging about how things do or don't work is rarely the best way of distracting a Team Kodi developer (an unpaid volunteer working in their spare time) to your cause.
