LibreElec Generic 12.2.1 with Intel Wireless 3160

  • I installed LibreElec Generic 12.2.1 on a Gigabyte Brix GB-BXi5-5200.
However, it only shows the wired connection, but not the wireless one.
If I SSH into it and do lspci I get the following output:

Do I need to install drivers of some sort to get this working?

  • Please provide a full debug log.

How to post a log (wiki)

    1. Enable debugging in Settings>System Settings>Logging
    2. Restart Kodi
    3. Replicate the problem
    4. Generate a log URL (do not post/upload logs to the forum)

use "Settings > LibreELEC > System > Paste system logs" or run "pastekodi" over SSH, then post the URL link
  • https://paste.libreelec.tv/handy-gorilla.log

I can see the Intel Wireless driver in the logs, but I don't have any option of using the Wifi connection.
Or am I missing an option?
System -> Libreelec -> Connections shows only the wired interface.
System -> Libreelec -> Network shows only options for wired networks

I have tried Genericy Legacy build, Generic build and now the Generic Nightly. All the same result.

  • My J3160 runs latest LE13 Generic nightly, its ASRock with Realtek RTL8111GR, wifi shows up here but its unusable more or less, its too slow and unstable.

With wifi i get ping 30 ms, upload 7 Mbps, down 9 Mbps.

With a crappy Powerline adapter i get ping 15 ms, up 37 Mbps, down 63 Mbps.

  • The log contains a prominent kernel splat from the iwlwifi driver and Google (re)searching on that throws up a large number of bug reports from a large number of distros over a long period of time. I didn't find anyone really getting to the bottom of things but the recurring theme is "PCI issues" and some users report success when disabling some features of the kernel driver.

I'd suggest updating to the latest BIOS/firmware for the board then retesting with an LE13 nightly dating from tomorrow (as this will have the Linux 6.18 kernel update merged earlier today).

If that doesn't magically solve anything, something like this might be needed https://www.edu4rdshl.dev/posts/fixing-i…ashes-on-linux/
