Heyho,
i have been googling for quite some time and found several now dead project that joined libreelec with retroarch.
Is there anything working out there? It is kinda sad you basically have to run a lakka and a kodi box unless you want to deal with a fullblown windows or linux desktop just to switch between the two.
i so hope the sometime join forces and make an entertainment station os.
Any working retroarch addon?

Since about 2016 .. it's not the best-documented thing but if you've experience with other retrogaming systems and understand the components it's not so hard to figure out (in the end, it is just retroplayer, in Kodi).

You could try and have a look at https://github.com/zach-morris/repository.zachmorris
The plugin uses The Internet Archive to fetch retro games.
So you will need an account for https://archive.org/
