Amlogic S905 (2.0 GHz Quad Core Cortex A53)

  • Hi,

Can someone please help, I have an old Droidbox T8-S Plus V2 (DroiX T8-S Plus v2 Gamer's Edition) It is a dual boot TV box with Android and LibreELEC.

I don't use the Android side of the box, but love LibreELEC, now as the title suggests this has a S905 Amlogic processor, can this be updated to a newer version of LibreELEC (currently has version 8.0.2.001) and this is running great. However I would like to update LibreELEC if possible?

I have downloaded the latest release as it says it supports S905. Problem I have is I have no clue which dtb file to use, have tried 'meson-gxbb-kii0pro-dtb' and that does not boot.

I would like to ideally boot from SD card first to find a compatible version before thinking about flashing the internal version (if even possible?)

Or am I peeing in the wind and probably best getting a new TV box? If so please can someone advise a decent TV box that will run the latest LibreELEC and will be a bit future proof for a while at least. I ideally don't want to spend more than £100, the lower the better in the current climate.

Or... would you suggest I just stick with this box and continue to run LibreELEC 8.0.2.001 as quite frankly its rock solid and plays everything from my NAS fine.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and hopefully helping or pointing me in the right direction.

    Cheers,

    Smoggy :)

The droidbox specs say it has Gigabit Ethernet so I'd experiment with the p201 dtb file (not p200) or you simply need to work the list of available "gxbb" files and see what works best (or least worst). The IR remote can be mapped easily - there's an article for that in the wiki too.

NB: If you have £100 to spend an RPi5 board is currently the best supported LE hardware and the recently released 2GB version has a nicer price point than the 4GB/8GB models. There are lots of things available with fancier specs, but average hardware with A1+ software support gets you further than A1+ hardware with average software (and RPi5 isn't exactly average hardware..).

  • Thank you for taking the time to reply. Even tho I am very experienced in IT, I am just dipping my toe in these waters. As I don't want to brick the Droidbox I have ordered a TX6 with the Allwinner H6 proc to mess around with and if that updates OK I may then start to mess with the Droid box :)

Thank you again for the info. I may need more when the new box arrives?
