Strange HDR Problem

  • Hello

    I have n100 libreelec. Works perfect on my hisense tv. Hdr works fine.

    I got a new panasonic mx800b tv. I can not get hdr to work at all. It does not have the option in player options for hdr. I have tried different cables and hdmi ports. I created an edid.

    I have tried ps5 and nvidia shield on the tv and hdr works.


    I rang panasonic support and they said it should work as other devices are working.

    Wonder if anyone can help.

    0-MD3 must be 0.

  • Kodi determines audio/video capabilities based on EDID content on the HDMI connection so if the EDID output is bad or broken it will cause features to be not-detected. It's unusual for a modern TV to have bad EDID data, but it does happen.

    I'd suggest experimenting with other HDMI cables and different ports on the TV, as different ports often have different capabilities and sometimes you need to enable e.g. "Deep Colour" modes in port settings to have HDR or 4K60 support (there are no standard terms; vendors make up different names).

  • That EDID does not have HDMI-Forum VSDB (vendor-specific data block).

    Check your TV's HDMI related settings. I am not familiar with Panasonic TVs but on Samsung you have to enable "Input Signal Plus" to enable HDMI 2.0 EDID. There must be something similar to that on Panasonic.

    Upd.: looks like on Panasonic it is called HDMI "Mode 2".

    I am taking the tv back. After speaking to Panasonic tech, they ended up saying it is not compatible (i even explained edid problem). There is no signal plus or anything like that e.g. enhanced format etc. It also runs fireos, which tbh is rubbish. I think lesson learned is do not buy panasonic tvs. This is a new model as well.
