Swapping hardware/motherboard

  • After about ten year my XBMC box finally died.
So it's time for new hardware, my question being that if I use the original HD (an SSD) do I need to do a full install again?

Edit- Just getting ready to do a fresh installation if need be, and it's been quite a long time since I've done that, so I read the Wiki again. Not terribly helpful past the point of creating the USB stick media, as it doesn't mention what to do with it at all. I'm guessing that you have to plug the USB stick in and get the board to boot via that stick?

  • Unless the hardware would require a different install then you shouldn't need to reinstall, just hook everything together and turn on.

If you do go the full install route then flash the usb stick (I use balanEtcher) plug into the box, boot from it and install to the ssd BUT before you do that, if you can get the xbmc box running for a bit take a backup - that will allow you to get your current configuration back.
