D'oh!
I thought I'd done that - sorry!
I managed to create that xml file in the right directory then rebooted the box. Just tried it, it seems okay but I'll have to give it a few days to make sure.
Many thanks for the help so far!

Something could be wrong with Samba, or an HDD has errors.
- Kodi has some Samba tweaks. Create an advancedsettings.xml file for that.
- Check your network drives for errors.
Not off to a good start.
The directories/folders/whatevers don't exist where they're supposed to be. Am I doing something wrong here? -
I don't know what most of that is sorry.
It's just a couple of hard drives on this PC, with the appropriate folders shared to the LE box. Been using it that way for years. It Just gradually slows down to a very painful crawl after a while and I was hoping there was a simple fix.

I'll see if I can work out how to do that, ta. -
If your NAS is slow, that happens, yes.
There's two HDD's, one 6 tb and an 8 tb. They are just average drives, so probably plenty fast enough I'd guess.

Yep looks like a fresh install time. It's much faster but still painfully slow navigating through the menus at times.
Does the number of files in each directory matter much? The slowest one has the largest number of videos in it. -
I tried turning off every add-on I reasonably could and it's much better now. There's still a longer delay than I'd like from when selecting a directory to when it appears, but it's a good 5+ minutes faster now.
The downside is that none of the TV stuff works now after I disabled it all.
So just go through each add-on until something starts playing up? -
Thanks. The pvr.hts add-on seems to create a lot of traffic. Can you disable it for a test?
If that doesn't work, disable other add-ons step-by-step.
Okay I tried that. I'm not 100% sure what that add-on is so I disabled all the tvheadend stuff.
It's possibly worse now - I navigated to the TV Shows directory, tried to pick a directory at random and waited for it to load. Gave up after nearly half an hour, it was just locked-up.So hit the reset button and tried again but just tried to play a video in the TV Show root directory. It again locked up but after 5 - 10 minutes the video finally started to play. So I stopped it, and tried to get out of that directory, gave up after a good 20 minutes.
I got the log file though, hopefully there's something there that might help. -
Use the default skin.
Haven't ever changed it from that. -
Week 3.
Anyone please?Or should I just give up and either do a full re-install or find some other brand of software that does the same job?

Anyone, please?
I've taken to playing the files off a memory stick, that seems to work just fine. Though it's a pain the rear having to do that for everything I want to watch. -
Sorry about that, try this one then.

That helped lot, thanks!
I left the box for an hour or two and it's finally managed to get into the selected folder. Trying to sort it out now ...
Edit - And got it.

I can't SSH into it, I just get this error message.
It all ground to a halt when I tried to select a folder in my TV series folder.
I thought that might happen, the box seems to be completely frozen. -
And in the last couple of hours it locks-up when ever I try to play a video. I have to reset the box to get it working again.
For example I can get into the TV Shows directory but when ever I select a directory there it all comes to a grinding halt. -
Is this all that you're after?
-
The box runs quite nicely after everything (this PC, router, and LE box) are rebooted.
Only a few hours later it's noticeably slower.
Use it a few months and it can take a good 5+ minutes from selecting a folder until it actually appears and is useable. I've had a quick search around here and haven't found anything much the same.
Where do I start looking for a solution please? -
After a few false starts/debugging the hardware, it works.
Just had to reset the screen borders and it's exactly the same as it used to to be, whew!
