Having issues updating Libreelec on Chromebox

  • Hi all,

I am trying to update Libreelec on my Chromebox from kodi 17.03 or so to the latest version. SSH will not work due to limited space issues. So, I downloaded the .gz file from here AMD / Intel / nVidia – LibreELEC. However, whenever I try booting from USB, I get "booting kernel failed: invalid argument". I tried 2 different USBs using both Rufus and Libreelec USB creator and experienced the same issue. When I tried loading Ubuntu from a USB, it works though the OS is not stable (but confirms, I can boot from USB), I get different things every time (GUI or sometimes just a blank black screen with ubuntu).

What am I missing/how should I proceed? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • MrChromebox.tech <= has all the boot things for Chromebox devices but that would be mostly useful for a clean install. If you've already got LE installed and there is a space problem the solution is probably to do some spring cleaning to make space.

Thanks. I've been on the site, which is why I downloaded Ubuntu so that I could do a fresh install but it seems like the file I downloaded is not stable. I will try again on another drive. The goal is to install Ubuntu then download the LE script.

Btw. Thanks, I've read a few of your post helping lots people.

  • Hi,

I wiped the drive installed Gallium and downloaded the script from here MrChromebox.tech. However the only option I have available was option 7, which I used. When I try to reboot, I get the same error again /KERNEL failed: invalid argument

    I am using chromebox. CN60
