Rpi4 NFS WiFi: playback freezes

  • I'm running on a pi 4, with my media on a NAS mounted via NFS. Until a few weeks ago, it was connected by LAN (using home plugs), and was rock solid, but now I'm connected over WiFi. Occasionally (maybe once in 5h playback or so) playback just freezes: if I skip back and forward it usually starts again. HD streams don't seem to be more / less affected than SD, so I don't think bandwidth is the issue. It usually happens in the first 5 minutes of a stream, I think.

This is the section of the kodi.log that I think is relevant: let me know if you'd like to see the whole thing.

    Anyone else seen this?

We prefer to think that the whole log is always relevant. Solving a puzzle with not all the pieces is not gonna work.

So kindly provide the uncut version via a pastebin website near you.

And, maybe it's the RPi, or maybe it's the router (or access point, whatever is active) that is having occasional hiccups. The antenna on the RPi 3/4 is pretty small, so any obstacle can cause a ripple pretty quickly. Perhaps your neighbors are using their microwave from time to time?

. I've just redacted my (admittedly local) ip address and the movie file paths.

I'm happy to accept that it's a wifi break that's causing it, I'm just surprised that it doesn't start again when the signal comes back (which it doesn't seem to). Does kodi buffer a certain amount (time or data volume) before starting / restarting playback? Maybe I'll have to invest in a better wifi adaptor for it.
