Back at home I just tried to reboot from the Kodi menu. Now I'm back at the screen with the failed unmounts, taking the HTPC minutes to reboot.
Doesn't the script work with that kind of reboot?

It should work with any kind of reboot.
It would be good to understand why unmount fail. I assume because one program has open files on it and still running.

Hmm, kind of strange, now "reboot" in a terminal also takes it time again.....

There must be something wrong with LibreELEC here. I now got my older HTPC as my main player, since my NUC is going back to Intel for service.
A new LibreELEC installation on a USB-stick, and on reboot it takes a long time. Showing some kind of info about the shutdown process on the TV, like my first post attached picture. But, without the red text about errors. It might be that the red text just isn't available on the TV, but I don't know.
Anyhow, why is a reboot more direct?
