Libreelec and Raspi 3 // Force Wifi via 5Ghz

Hi,

I use this wifi settings for a pre-installed SD card: Can I add WiFi config to SD card pre-install? (headless setup)

This works fine. Can I force with this method also a connection via 5Ghz?

The SSID from 2,4Ghz and 5Ghz are equal. I can't change it.

I use an external wifi adapter: Edimax EW-7811UTC. It works with 5Ghz, but it is often changeing between 2,4Ghz and 5 Ghz.

The only way to force a connection to 5GHz only networks is to set the router so it has a dedicated SSID for 5GHz and then only authentticate the LE device to that SSID. Otherwise the WiFi card is doing what it's supposed to do .. find the best connection and use it. The problem with all WiFi networks is that connectivity and performance are variables that are largely outside your control.

with ubiquiti you can force 5ghz for "high performance clients" which rpi4 seems to be. this works for me

rpi4 seems to be very picky about 5ghz channels though

Setting the wireless regulatory domain may also help to ensure the correct spread of radio channels is available. This becomes a GUI setting in LE 9.2.3 .. before then it has to be done manually from a conf file.

yes, I just built "9.2.3" as of yesterday, it barely helps. rpi4 wifi still seems very picky about the channels
