Does LibreELEC support playback through an external HDD and can you scale the output.

  • I've just bought my first ever Pi (4 - 4GB model and I'm a complete noob, I bought it to use it for kodi and connecting hard drives to the Pi to watch movies on a TV (since the tv software doesn't support DTS audio codecs) . I'm just confused with the amount of operating systems there are for the Pi and while I like the look of LibreELEC I wasn't sure if you could output video from a hard drive. Also can you change the scaling of the Pi to fit the TV correctly through LibreELEC?

    Thanks

  • Yes, you can view video files from attached harddrives. You will need to create video sources first as is shown in Kodi's tutorial.

There are basically 2 options for the Raspberry Pi 4:

    - LibreELEC with Kodi

    - Raspbian + Kodi installation

The second one does require a more hands-on approach.

Scaling varies per TV, I guess. Be sure that overscan is disabled on your TV. Most TVs will have an option for that or have PC-specific input ports.
