Kodi encoding to LPCM 24 bits multichannel Audio / Amlogic S905/905X

  • Letting Kodi encode DTS HD MA and True HD to LPCM 5.1/7.1 channel Audio with Amlogic S905/905X will always downgrade to 16 bits instead of the orginal 24 bits.

From what I understand there is a vesion now that will decode to LPCM 24 bits, and that is LibreELEC-S905.arm-8.2.5-Chroma.422.10bit.

IS this the only one that will do this? Or is there more version that can do this?

  • nobody?

the problem is there is no way to confirm 24 bits in a receiver, you need special hdmi analyzer for that.

I guess I have to accept that LibreELEC-S905.arm-8.2.5-Chroma.422.10bit probably is the only version supporting 24 bits LPCM 5.1 sound...

Just keep following the version number as they increase, all previous additions are included in subsequent versions.

Otherwise look at the file dates:

ie v8.2.5.1 is the version after 8.2.5

v8.2.5.2 will be the next version after 8.2.5.1 and so on...

You need specialist audio equiptment to actually test bit perfect 24bit audio output as detailed in this Vero 4K development thread:

    24-bit output - Vero 4K / Vero 4K + - OSMC Forums

And yes the 24bit Kernel HDMI output signalling changes talked about in that thread are in the LE v8.2.5.x versions onwards.

  • One thing more:

    What is the difference between:

    LibreELEC-S905.arm-8.2.5-Chroma.422.10bit.img.gz

    downloaded 2018-08-20, size: 125 833 107 byte

    LibreELEC-S905.arm-8.2.5-Chroma.422.10bit.img.gz

    downloaded 2018-09-01, size: 125 842 349 byte

    Same namne, different sizes.....

I cant see the later one is called 8.2.5.1
