LibreELEC generic install, no audio using AMD R9 380 HDMI

  • Hey everyone, This is my first post and i really enjoy the OS on rpi2, it works great for that system. however, when i try to get anything to playback on my desktop that has a second HDD for KODI, it simply will not output any audio using the hdmi port on my AMD R9 380.

i have tried without audio passthrough and using audio passthrough just to see if the issue was with my home theater system but either option does not produce any audio. please help...

heere is my debug log: IJUc

i have tried repluggin the hdmi cable and that did not work, i do not have other audio outputs that i can realistically use (i do not have a long enough cable for the analog audio jacks on my mobo).

  • Could you please post a screenshot of your audio settings?

And please check if your BIOS is set correctly to use the card as first audio/video device. Disable on-board sound if possible.

well i found the option to disable my onboard sound (something i never cared to look for before) but that did not solve anything , and here is a really dumb question, how do i take a screenshot from libreELEC itself (i have also tried ssh command "kodi-send -a \"takescreenshot\" ") that did not work

  • Hmmm...unfortunately I can't see any "name" of any device detected in your debug log, that would mention which HDMI is in use. The only (unfortunately dumb) suggestion I can give, is to try ANY HDMI output the "audio output device" and the "passthrough output device" offers you. Both should be the same in the end as only one of them should work. So please be aware to always change both settings.

Unfortunetly i have tried every 'HDMI' option for both the regular audio and the passthrough options with a video playing in the background, and nothing happened.

but i will retry it again and change both at the same time...

  • i just tested the 8 alpha with my main desktop that has the amd r9 380 and it still did not work,

then i tested it on my server that has a AMD HD7950 and it worked fine with both 7 and 8 alpha audio worked perfect so it must need to be updated to use newer r9 cards maybe?

either way i can just use my server and turn the volume up a bit to beat the fans.
