Who owns files on external EXT4 formatted drives?

I recently formatted the USB 3.0 drive plugged into my Rpi3 to EXT4 and everything was fine until I plugged it back into my Ubuntu desktop to add more files to the drive. Upon inspection it seems the files I transferred using samba were written as owned by root. Is this normal? Will copying files using gksu and launching my file manager cause any trouble when adding and saving fanart, logos, etc back in LibreELEC?

Who is supposed to own my files in LibreELEC?

Yep it's fine, you can chown the files on your other system if you want them owned by someone else.

OK thanks. So it will be no big deal,LibreELEC will take ownership and I don't have to worry about it.
