Although it's probably not the reason for the 1080p resolution selection problem, support is still stopped. It's 'company policy'.

I assume you have some kind of Intel x86-64 machine, but that's about it.

I'm not that familiar with all TV stuff on Kodi, but you disable WebGrabPlus, and things are fine?

It's just possible that the addon itself has become unstable, and in that case, it's more the WebGrabPlus addon author(s) problem.

From overall experience, it's better to NOT spend a large amount of money on a system that is supposed to last 5-10 years. Technology changes fast these days.

It's better to spend a small(er) amount on hardware that is current at that time.

'Better'... at what? Videos won't be played faster, and the basics for a video play are roughly all the same. Some have a little faster gpu, some have more gpu cores. Also, the next generation like Coffee Lake is rumored to be introduced much earlier, perhaps even in 2-3 months time. Currently Intel has no 'real' HDMI 2.0 port. Some NUCs are using a DisplayPort derivative. The next gen boxes should have a proper HDMI 2.0x port.

A Raspberry Pi 3 does 1080p just fine, is probably the most stable build out there (if you don't install any shady addons), boot time is not really applicable since it's always on, and not laggy afaict. An extensive music collection can be a problem, though.

Something faster than a Wetek Play? Other devices won't play videos any faster.

If you still plan to use a 1080p TV for the time being, any Intel box will be fine. I can still use my 4-5 year old Ivybridge Celeron 1037UN for that with no problem.

Intel Kaby/Apollo Lake and upwards.

The RPi idles at some 1.5 Watt. If that's still too much, just power it down and unplug the power adapter.

You can also try to put the HDD into a spindown. There should be an addon on that somewhere.

Otherwise try the hdparm command.

I'm afraid that Linux/LibreELEC doesn't really like your AMD video card. AMD/Ati GPUs have given us mixed results for the last couple of years, mostly because AMD hasn't really bothered to do any Linux video support.

You mean you then get a normal display of LibreELEC's main screen? That would be very odd.

It could be related to this bug report: #17299 (DVD ISO with menu won't play) – Kodi - TRAC as well as this thread.

If that's the case, then it's all waiting for Kodi 18 (or its nightlies).

/storage/.cache is a directory, not a command.

I'm not sure what your entire "use-case" is with your HTPC: videos only or games as well?

The supported GPU list for Intel htpc boxes is a bit unsure now on a long-term prognosis.

From what I know:

• Intel have now a pretty small Linux department as far as Linux graphics development is concerned. Support for Linux has it flaws.
• Nvidia is to abandon VDPAU support, and its successor is not yet known. (the GT1030 is a cheaper HTPC option for viewing only, but Nvidia Linux still only supports upto 8-bit video. Windows does 10-bit.)
• AMD's latest videocards are scarcely available so developing/testing is a big mountain to climb.

More and more Android-like boxes get good video solutions. Nvidia Shield TV is a good overall choice.

If you had bothered to include a kodi.log file at first, we might have seen something that would disrupted the browsing.

But since you already changed to OpenELEC without waiting for replies, there is nothing left to do here.

It's good to hear the ION box is running okay. Just have a little bit more patience with us next time.
