There is no HDR support in Linux for legacy LSPCON chips. Patches exist but they have not been merged (yet).
PCON DP 1.4 -> HDMI 2.1 is already properly supported. I see no reason why there would be an issue with HDR.
Ah ok
The new NUCs dont have HDMI 2.1 though only 2.0a
-
It will probably work fine, support in Linux is already there.
hmm so far only the people with gemni lake nucs got HDR working without bitstream audio. unless I missed it and people with NUC8 or 9 have these builds working with HDR?
-
So NUC11 Pro still has PCON chip but connecting to DP1.4a.
As the LSPCON was the reason why the other NUCs cant do HDR on LE properly, does this newer version with DP1.4 change that or will we still need the patches?

Panther Canyon NUCs use Intel Tiger Lake SoC.
Will your builds with HDR work on them if they have native HDMI?
-
All Tiger Lake chips have the same (Gen12) GPU. The difference is only a number of enabled EUs (48 on lower end Celeron 6305).
So Xe is still same Intel Iris but just more EUs?
-
So NUC11 should be shipping now in some places.
For LE I think the i3 version will be safer bet as it uses standard intel gfx while the i5 and i7 uses new XE which may not have support in LE.
No idea if they are native HDMI 2 or LSPCON though. Im hoping native so these builds can work.
-
I believe they are called Panther Canyon NUCs with Tiger Lake SoC
In theory Tiger Lake should work with the current build. The cheapest Tiger Lake is Celeron 6305.
I'm not too interested in NUCs but when an ITX board with Celeron 6305 is available I will buy it.
ah yes panther canyon lol got mixed up
I dont think I will get the i5 with XE gfx as I wont need to game or do anything that needs good gpu.
currently got a old Apollo lake celeron nuc
-
i hear rumors that Panther lake nuc will have native HDMI ports instead if LSPCON. lets hope the gemni lake patches does not need much more work for Panther Lake!
-
Nekromantik be careful as that one might not have support yet where as you can find Gemini Lake NUC's for less as they are older and they work.
I didn't realize I could get an intel NUC with Gemini Lake still so I "built" one using the ODROID H2+ board which now I regret as you can just go with an intel one that looks nicer ... but alas it is what it is and it works. Testing out your latest build smp and figuring which limited addons are updated and which ones aren't yet.
EDIT: I compared video quality of this build compared to my Vero 4k+ and its not even close, the Vero 4k+ is superior. Its as if I'm watching the movie in a smokey room. A white haze, colors are not as bright and "popping". Its triggering HDR on my tv but is it really using the metadata ? Tomorrow I'll install winblows on the box and test out that build of v19.
yeah hopefully its supported soon after
-
i might pick up Tiger Lake NUC if not too much
my current one is NUC6 so cant do HDR even in windows

those who testing and getting blank screen are you on samsung tvs?
-
Correct, not using Gemini lake.
The build we just tried had patches for LPSCON controller which Gemini lake doesn’t have either so shouldn’t effect Gemini lake.
yup it looks like lspcon devices stlll dont work for HDR as patches are work in progress
Only gemni lake had native HDMI 2.0 so that is working
makes it dificult for me to upgrade as everything new still uses lspcon
-
I'm using SMP's build posted a little further up this thread.
Do the mainstream builds now have Gemini Lake HDR support?
No I just meant the patch to fix the audio issue was included in 9.2.2 hotfix release.
Those with no video on HDR files, you are not using Gemini Lake correct?
-
Thanks for this.
I hadn't expected it to work with Rec 2020 HLG HDR (so many other things just do HDR10) - but it seems to. My Rec 2020 HLG HDR stuff is output with HLG flagged and my TV switches into HLG HDR mode. This is great news for BBC UHD HDR iPlayer stuff which uses HLG.
However for some reason my TV's sound device is not detected with this build detected. I'll have a reboot of both my TV and my Gemini Lake box to check it's not an HDMI funny.
** Aah - I solved it with this LibreELEC Testbuilds for x86_64 (Kodi 19.0) as I didn't want to alter my BIOS in case I go back to Windows **
echo "blacklist snd_soc_skl" > /storage/.config/modprobe.d/blacklist-snd-soc-skl.conf
Yes that sound issue was fixed in LE 9.2.2 Hotfix
So if your build is after that it should not need to use blacklist

I don't expect HDR to work on anything else yet.
majofi has it working so it does work on one gen of devices at least
