The nightly releases wont contain kernel 5.12 correct?
-
You still wouldn't gain HDR
Even on newer NUCs?
-
It's less about LibreELEC and more about Kodi. Kodi 19 is already in a release cycle so that means no new features and only bug fixes. So that means now that the Kodi 20 development window is open it is possible to get it merged in. I don't spend a lot of time on this though as it's very consuming and requires a lot of work.
So Kodi 20 is aimed for LibreELEC 11 which may gain x86 HDR support if I merge my work. If people want to take these patches and create their own builds that's possible also. They can also backport the patches to LE10 if they self build.
Well LE10 could have ditched x86 if they just said sorry no to nvidia users.
-
Why won't it make it to the LE10 builds? I'm happy to test but in the end I prefer to go back to the original releases and follow their update cycle instead of relying on SMP. Would be a shame to consider replacing this NUC (7i5) if if it has the ability to work but not with the official build.
lrusak confirmed the patches to make it work on NUC6 and NUC7 wont be in official LE10.
If we want to use official and get HDR we would need newer NUCs. Maybe NUC8 and newer but not sure.

Since it is raining figured I would go on with this
The NUC6 also supports Pass-through for me. I tested it with HDR file with BT2020 and True-HD passthrough popped up on the receiver.
Confirmed, tvheadend42 works - thanks again !
good news
But if those patches dont make it in LE10 then bit sad as we have to rely on smp which aint great for him haha or build our own.
-
They won't be in LE10
oh
-
smp do you know if the patches you used in post 502 will be included in LE10?
Or would you need to keep building new releases with those patches?
-
Apologies for the later reply, bit limited in time and now it is weekend so now had some more time:
I can confirm NUC6AYH does work with HDR now with the latest build from RE: Intel true 10bits/HEVC/HDR support... ? (post 502)
I did a brief test on my NUC7i3 with the same build hooked up to my receiver - had to fiddle around a bit in the settings but I managed to get pass-through working (too). I had True-HD Audio and HDR working on it. I have not tested for long, because unfortunately the TVHeadend server on the build isnt working (requires a kernel-module which is not there - most likely due to the kernel-change?) and I needed to watch some TV
So all in all splendid work ! Lets hope this is a viable solution when the final release comes in for LibreElec 10
did passthrough work on your NUC6?
-
NUC6AYH has HDMI 2.0 port (MCDP2800 LSPCON), J3455 Apollo Lake SoC with Gen9 Graphics. It should be capable to support HDR in Linux.
Windows HDR support is irrelevant, Gemini Lake also doesn't support HDR in Windows.
On my NUC6CAYS build from Post 502 works for HDR but like others it sometimes goes to blank screen.
HDR dont work if I select passthrough audio though.
-
That's interesting.
According to Intel's support pages for those NUCs they use the same MCDP2800 LSPCON chip.
Can you retest NUC6AYH with the build from post #502?
Also note that there is an issue with those builds. If you turn the TV off and then on (while the NUC is connected and working) - HDR will stop working until Kodi is restarted (maybe a bug in EDID parser code).
I think the 6 series CPU dont support HDR at all. Not even in Windows. I think I saw a Intel article that said Gemini Lake/Kaby Lake and newer will support HDR.

You can install LE to a USB drive.
ah good idea!
-
Is there anyway to test builds without having to backup and restore current install?
Like a live USB running these builds?
-
-
i agree
how can a NUC decode audio same then a 1k AV.
-
Please don't lump us all into the same boat

They closed it!

yeah I hate that LE team is so focused on keeping Nvidia alive when Nvidia themselves dont give a damn about Linux.
they should just dump it and release Kodi 19 based LE for Intel/AMD on GBM
-
smp - forgive me if this has been beaten down before - but it is pretty hard to find information about the subject online. Your build, would it work on a NUC6CAYB to enable HDR output ?
The NUC6CAYB has a Celeron J3455 with Intel HD Graphics 500 and :
- HDMI 2.0 (4K @ 60 Hz) with HDMI CEC via MegaChips MCDP2800-BCT DisplayPort 1.2a to HDMI 2.0 Level Shifter/Protocol Converter
If memory serves me well it has the same LS-PCON as the newer generation NUC's have - tho I'm uncertain if the SoC can even support HDR.
Nope only Gemini Lake and newer supports it with these builds.
