The location of the reset switch definitely is not an issue in my case, it's behind the AV port I'm certain. I can feel the actual click of the switch as I hold it down/release it.

I am trying to follow all the issues and read he can get to the switch?
This is hard to follow as there is so much information with so many gaps in between.

You seem to be overlooking the fact that the Reset Button doesn't work - therefore the toothpick method cannot work

I'm more confused than he is.

My biggest problem is that I don't have the entire system backup (just recovery.img & btd.img)

Please read the following and try the method.
    7.0.2.009 build for S905/S905X
    Download file with img.gz extension.
    LibreELEC-S905.aarch64-7.0.2.009.img.gz

    Confirming your Hardware.
    s905 Chip
    1gb/8gb 100m Lan

    Use the following.

    Device Tree gxbb_p200_1G_100M_RealtekWiFi.dtb
From the picture you supplied i can see the realtek logo.
Rename it to dtb.img and copy it to main folder of SD card- Replace the one that's already there.

Burn the downloaded file to SD card.
If you use windows follow instructions as i use Mac OS.
In the following order is what i do.
I un pack the img.gz and burn the image file to sd card.
Then i replace the device tree already on the sd card with the renamed device tree.

I then toothpick into recovery and the box boots from SD Card.

Now if this is not happening for you please do not insert the LE SD Card.
First try and get into recovery without the SD Card inserted.
If you can’t get into recovery with no sd card inserted you need original device tree(dtb.img) and recovery image on an sd card
and then toothpick method. That should get you into recovery.
Then Remove the recovery SD Card.

Once you get into recovery insert the prepared LE Sd card and choose reboot recovery from the menu.

    That should hopefully work.

For how long will the box function if I stop updating it? I would like to install Libreelec and give it away to my less technical brother. Will it stop working after a time because of not updating?

Currently the most stable version on my Tx5 Pro S905x is the current 7.0.3.011.
On my S905 boxes the version 7.0.3.09 is stable due to the random boot Freezes.
Give him the current stable version for his box hardware and he should be good until add-ons no longer work
with Jarvis 16.1. That will be a very long time in my experience with Kodi.

Then I put an empty zip file called dummy.zip on the same sdcard and chose that as the update source from the Android Update program.

MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP THE ORIGINAL DTB FILE FROM ANDROID as, once LE is installed internally, the only way to recovery is with Android dtb.img and recovery.img on SD card and issue reboot recovery via SSH (or similar)

This is not going to help you if you have Android Firmware with no Recovery using Toothpick Method.
You have to find Firmware that goes to Recovery using Reset button.
Issuing reboot recovery wont get you anywhere if box wont recover from SD Card due to Android Firmware.

I have a Beelink Mini MX III and for some versions, I have to start the Android TV several times to get the Ethernet connection. What is due? How can I solve it?

However, I would plug the box directly into your router with another network cable, just to check.

Or, you could install Libreelec to sd card & try that.

It is a known issue with these boxes. All Black Non Branded Beelink version.
    Only happens on Cold Boot.
    Android and LE same issue.
If the box has power to it , it never happens again after it has hooked up.

Booted fine from SD card, CEC working and networking etc.
Ran installtointernal, succeeded and rebooted... it booted from SD
Removed SD, it says "No signal"

CAUTION: If your box has a non-standard partition layout, you will see an error when trying to boot from internal memory for the first time. To solve it, you need to boot one more time from SD card and run

    Code
    installtointernal

    again.

Just removed the disk from the external drive and put it in my computer. No Virtual drive. It has to be located in the controller itselve. That's why nothing worked. I just cant access the flash drive or whatever in the controller to remove that VCD. I think only buying new external usb cases might work for me.

You tried remove hide or disable the virtual drive ?
How to remove (disable / hide) the Virtual CD (VCD) for Windows or Mac OSX on a WD My Book or WD My Passport | WD Support
Plug drive into router and access it via SMB and see what that does.

SD Card November 19th Dev Build LibreELEC-S905.aarch64-7.0-devel-20161119092613-r23439-gc23e2fb.img.gz  #138

I have some breaking news on this boot freeze. I am sorry to add my previous quote to this but it is important.

Today i tried another variable in that i have the stock 7.0.3.011 internal and the 19th November Dev Build on SD Card boot.

I have a USB Stick inserted and a USB Receiver for my keyboard also inserted whilst testing.

The good news is whilst using November 19th Dev build on SD Card i have tried over 40 times to make the box freeze by using
Reboot from Nand 7.0.3.011 without any freezes at all. The Boot animation skips fast whilst using reboot from nand compared to reboot whilst in 7.0.3.011 without the SD Card installed.

I am not sure if this method of bootup bypasses the USB option of bootup and hence does not freeze or kszaq might enlighten us on what this means.
Important to mention i executed fw_setenv upgrade_step 1 over SSH before toothpicking fresh November 19th Dev Build.
That alone did not fix boot issues. I then toothpicked the fresh 19th Dec SD Card.

Can some other members try a working version on SD Card and the 7.0.3.011 on internal to see if you get the same results.
I ask this because this Bloody Box will not Freeze at all now.
Even when i have pulled the SD Card out and still have USB peripherals plugged in.
    :@
Looks like we might have this bug fixed by Christmas :D

Can someone tell me how to delete these smartware partitions without reformating the whole drive? Just to disable them using the smartware wont work.

NTFS or Fat32 Format is all that works for me with Kodi.
I think you have to RE-Format your drive without that conflicting WD Smartware Software.
I use Mac and had issues like that before with WD My Book Drives.
I wipe and format the drive before i even think of using it for Media Storage.

Is what you did the same as #183 Link. fw_setenv upgrade_step 1
Make all u-boot variables go back to default values and thus disable SD and USB booting ?
I ask because this did not fix the boot freeze executing command over ssh

Ive the TX5 (S905X) and is working great with libre from SD
Now i wanted to install it to internal emmc so i connect trough SSH with WinSCP and run the command "installtointernal"

    i get:

    Code
    LibreELEC:~ # installtointernal
This script will erase BOOT, SYSTEM, DATA and DTB on your device
and install LE that you booted from SD card/USB drive.

It will create a backup of device tree and recovery partition on your boot media                                                                                        .

The script does not have any safeguards!

And then i get that the device is not responding.
the box stays also just working nothing change after 60sec WinSCP can reconnect to the device but is not installed on internal.
    Any idea's about this?
