Think you have to register to view that sub-forum - I've tried twiddif's libreelec on a mini mxiii on sd card - seems to be working pretty well.
The vc-1 licence won't make any difference, will it?
I can't remember having any problems playing x264 720p files over smb on any pi (1, 2 or 3).

Off-topic (in that I'm using an s905) but I'm looking for a hint or two...
I'm booting from sd card, so I have SYSTEM, kernel.img, dtb.img and aml_autoscript in the root of the card.
Could you tell me...
1) where the pointer to the storage partition is in all that lot, and...
2)How easy it would be (or not!) to change that to another partition.
On my pc's and pi's I use a couple of storage partitions, so I can jump between stable and test versions without them interfering with each other - so I'm thinking about whether it's possible to do something similar in amlogic-world.
Any pointers appreciated.
I'm confused as to what exactly you've done here.
If you have an existing mysql setup then all you have to do on the new install is to add the advancedsettings.xml with the database settings and restart.
Content is already set - in the database. When you start kodi for the first time using the advancedsettings.xml it will upgrade the existing database if required (as in your case) - which might take a while.
I find I need the 'wait for network' checked, or otherwise kodi will try and fail to connect to the database before it's connected.
Have you checked 'wait for network before starting kodi' in the libreelec addon settings?
I thought the addons database was separate to the videos database and the music database and did not use mysql?
Me too. You can't share an addons database between machines - it would make no sense. 
Ah... not used that method for years - it certainly used to work, I'm surprised it doesn't still.
Live mode is horrible, I agree. But you can use the installer to install properly to another usb stick - just choose that instead of your hard drive - if you want.
Personally I muck about much more than that - I run from a fat32 partition on usb / sd, pointing at ext4 partitions on my hard drives for storage.
How do you watch movies on a headless htpc?
I have a headless pi (using openelec at the moment) in my car - watch on tablets via upnp or smb, play music via stereo aux input, control via yatse.
For me it works because I can easily use the same library / sources as at home.
Not that I'm desperate for a working VNC addon - just that there are usage cases for headless install.
No idea whether it still works with Jarvis, but this sounds like what you're looking for...

You can configure it to perform an action on idle or on screensaver activation, or on various other events. I use it to go back to the home page on screensaver, you could set it up to load the kids' profile instead using a built-in function.

So it's not going to work in LE.
As long as they're all usingb the same database versions (so same version of kodi) there's no issue.
I have kodi on windows, android, openelec, libreelec plus spmc all accessing the same mysql database.
I can't answer that - but if it is still a problem then you can get around it. I have:

in all my advancedsettings.xml's as a matter of course, and don't have the issue.
Although it's a minor nuisance when I'm in the uk.
Why does it matter? I've used openelec on multiple windows machines for years- I boot from sd / usb but stick the storage partition at the end of the main hard drive. Never had a single issue with the windows partitions.
Might be a silly question - but have you changed the workgroup in settings / services / SMB client?
@Dreamcatcher:To reach the samba shares, you don't need to change the workgroup. Just enter:
Code\\ip.from.libreelec.here\and you're done.
If you have multiple clients and changed the "systemname" to something individual (like TV-room, bedroom, bathroom ... etc.) you can reach the shares with
Code\\bedroom\ or \\bathroom\\
It's surely not even possible to have 6 pi's without knowing that...? 
Open samba.conf and it's the second line that's not hashed out.
Edit: I'm assuming that's all you need but I've never needed to try it.
