would you be willing to share you latest code (via github) ? I can't promise if I find the time to do it, but I'd like to look into the HDMI/CEC issue. The system is kind of useless for me, if I always have to go through a reboot when switching back to kodi.
I just tried building an amd64 release myself under Debian/Buster. It fails here:
FAILURE: scripts/build qemu:host has failed!
[238/486] [FAIL] build qemu:host
Anyone else tried it ? Maybe Debian/Buster is not the appropriate build OS ?

Audio is working when PC's started (HDMI), but if i switch HDMI source on my TV and then going back to RetroELEC NUC the audio isn't working until next reboot.

Does anybody have a hint how to get FF to display non-latin (chinese in my case) fonts ?
I've installed the complete Noto fonts package. They are shown as available in FF's preferences.
But, FF does not render any chinese website correctly. All I get is those broken rectangle-like symbols.
It works fine with my Ububtu Desktop under X - using the same FF.
Any help/hint is appreciated.

has anyone gotten non-latin fonts to work with Firefox ?
I've installed Google's Noto fonts (complete package). font-cache lists them. FF shows them under 'Preferences', but does not render, for example, Chinese websites correctly.
The settings in FF looks similar to the one's on my Ubuntu desktop (here rendering works fine).
You'll need to wait until I have published the latest changes, I don't have enough disk and hosting for more images.

As I don't really want to waste your time and resources, I'd do it myself. But, it seems that the code at github is not up to date.

edit: ok, found out. Adding that line "frontend=kodi" still makes it boot to sway for me though.
Regarding your HDMI issue, I have that with my TV and Kodi (although using 17.6 there), if I do not start the TV first, Kodi will use 1080p resolution, which looks like a mess. If I start my TV first and then Kodi box, Kodi will use 2160p resolution (which is correct for my TV). Don't want to update that box because of partially broken subtitle handling in 18.x so can't confirm with newer versions.

Change frontend=sway to frontend=kodi in /boot/syslinux.cfg.
I assume, you mean /flash/syslinux.cfg ? I had to add frontend=kodi to the kernel cmdline. There was not 'frontend=' tag present.
The system now boots straight into Kodi.
Another question, did any HDMI-related settings change ?
I noticed a new problem/bug:
Kodi starts up while the receiver/tv is turned off. When I now turn on the TV, the Kodi's screen seems scaled into some kind of 'overscan' mode - meaning the outer pixels are outside of the TV screen (not shown). Also, there's no audio (receiver shows no audio coming in). Restarting Kodi with TV/receiver turned on fixes this.
This did not happen with older releases.
You might be able to set up antimicro (gamepad icon) to do it, not sure. In any case, if you are gaming just get a DS4 they are superb as mouse and even have two-finger scrolling and right click. Or an iPazzport from dealextreme.
Connection via Bluetooth (pairing in Retro/LibreElec) would work ?
Gaming is not the main activity. But something that could act as mouse and gamepad would be nice.

OK. So, a fresh install helped. I'm now on the latest release from the 26th.
"Desktop" starts and I can use FF.
What is the suggested 'mouse' device to use ? Is there any chance to use a PS3 controller (joystick) ?

emulationstation not launching hangs at black screen latest generic build. Yields same results going into new desktop menu item from kodi. Retroarch launches from kodi.
similar observation here. ES and FF (now Desktop) do not start. I see the Sway background, and that's it.

Your Pentium J005 simply isn't powerful enough for more demanding N64 emulation. I don't see any attempts to start ES/FF in your logs, they both should log to /var/log. The logs are wiped on reboot, so reproduce without rebooting.

There's a new Pentium silver coming up. CPU clock speed is up to 500 MHz higher, but GPU is identical.
I'm looking for an affordable fan-less system. The cheaper Intel NUCs seem to have a fan, and anything else that's fan-less costs about 500+ Euros, which I consider too much for an HTPC.
