I have also moved my install to ssd today. I did install rasbian and updated/fixed boot manager that way and then I did a fresh install of libreelec
So far so good.
Haven't done any testings yet but will do it tomorrow and see how it goes.
let us know buddy.

Thanks.
Has anyone any experience with overclocking the RPi4 with the latest firmware updates incorporated in LE's Update menu?I have an ice cooler for my RPi4 and use retroplayer and thought what-the-heck.
is the cooler getting really cold if you feel it with your fingers?

That was some time ago before the 9.2.3 release. 9.2.3 has recent enough firmware files and you don't need to replace anything.

I got it thank you. Well is there a tip to check the speed while running in LE with the usb stick and sd card?
-
This is perfectly normal, LE stores the firmware files under a different name. Just ignore the warnings.

So I am all done? Because you wrote some comments ago to replace the start.elf and fixup.dat files.
At this moment I do not have an ssd. Is there anyway to compare the usb stick with the sd card? I just want to know if the sd card
at this moment faster is then the usb or not.

You do know the whole RPi-USB booting thing is still in beta... Right?
it is official launched and is stable now and not beta.
-
Pleased to have found this thread - I was already running v9.2.3, but had tried copying the files from /boot (/flash) on the Raspbian distro and was greatly disappointed.
Reverted my /flash and all is running great, booting from USB flash drive.
Just thinking - a long time ago, when I was running OpenElec on Intel hardware, I was using network boot - perhaps I can try that again.
Did you replace files on the usb stick?
-
Dont do that, you are bricking your LibreELEC installation.
Only replace start.elf and fixup.dat, eg with the script or instructions in the linked post, and make sure no other start/fixup files are present.
It may work for you now but if you have other start/fixup files on your SD card your RPi won't be using the one needed for LibreELEC and on later LibreELEC updates you'll still be using that old version which can cause a lot of headache for you.
USB boot is working fine here with the May 27 firmware and bootloader versions.

So I update my firmware pieeprom to 15 june 2020. After that I made a fresh install on an usb stick 3.1 with LE 9.2.3
When I put in my pi4 and power it up the screen is saying that he is missing some files. But after some seconds LE is starting up. Where could I find the correct files to solve this issue?

Current RPis will happily accept cards larger than 32gb. And when using an image writer fat vs exfat doesn't matter at all as it will write the (v)fat partition as contained in the image. Exfat was mainly issue when using NOOBS.

Hias
I thougt so but thanks to correct me...

Rpi does not recogneze cards above 32gb. To do this you need to use a tool which will make the exfat to fat32.
-
Probably not, because USB enumeration will take a bit. I haven't done any speed / time tests, just checked if my USB2 SD card reader (which probably isn't too fast anyways) worked.
so long,
Hias
I will try if it work and if it is faster...

LE 9.2.3 ships with the May 27 RPi firmware which has initial support for USB boot.
Note however that RPi4 USB boot is in early beta testing stage and you also need the beta bootloader EEPROM update which is not included in LE.
So while it may be possible to boot LE 9.2.3 from USB (it worked for me with the LE SD card in a USB cardreader) it's not something we support ATM or even encourage you to try.
If you run into issues it's best to test with the Raspberry Pi OS (former Raspbian) instead of LibreELEC - chances are high that there are issues with several USB devices/adapters. Check the instructions in the USB boot thread on the RPi forum USB-MSD boot EEPROM update - 2020-05-28 - Raspberry Pi Forums and report issues there.

Sd card in an usb reader will that faster boot up LE instead of sd card in the sd slot?

Hi, sorry I forgot to say thank you for your reply and advice, much appreciated. I was distracted by other projects and forgot to check forum, but will now try a fresh install using SD card for boot and USB for storage similar to my previous method for RPi and RPi2.
if you have working this could you let us know?
-
Reporting back - I followed the instructions and tested the videos that were displaying the issue. Everything is now A'OK here.
A big 'thank you very much' to the LibreELEC Dev's for chasing this down, following up and providing an update on the fix as well as the instructions to implement it.
Your efforts are very much appreciated.
Could I ask which videos you have tested?

Please post the full output you get in putty, not only the commands you typed/copied in. wget will show some info/status and that's important.
And, again, no, vcgencmd bootloader_version is not the correct command to check the version of the firmware. vcgencmd version is the right command.
I already posted all of this in detail here Noise / artefacts when playing back 4K HEVC video on RPi4 + LE 9.2.1 (no problems on LE 9.2.0)
TBH if you can't follow these steps and don't understand the difference between bootloader, RPi firmware and VL805 firmware I think it's better you stay away from beta-testing and wait until the final version is released.
so long,
Hias
i got it thank you. Whats the full output for putty? I could try it again. And if it does not work then I will wait on 9.2.3
so long Harun -
Which steps exactly did you do and what was the console output?
The script I posted in this thread and the instructions I posted in the artefact thread are for updating the RPi/VideoCode firmware. It won't affect the bootloader.
so long,
Hias
mount -o remount,rw /flash
wget -O /flash/start.elf start4x.elf
wget -O /flash/fixup.dat fixup4x.dat
i did those 3 steps. I turned on the rpi4 till I was in the home screen of kodi/LE.With putty I made the connection to the pi4
and then write that 3 steps. And then write reboot. After that I write vcgencmd bootloader_version to check If I could see the bootloader is 22 may like yours and others. But no result.

No, the steps I posted are specific for LibreELEC, they won't work on Raspbian (they'll just mess up the firmware files for RPi0-3 there).
If you have issues with Raspbian please post in the thread on the RPi forum.
so long,
Hias
When I do the steps in LE with putty and after all reboot and check
I see still the april 16 2020
So it does not overwrite. Do I make a mistake somewhere?
