In Germany we used to say: You're riding a dead horse.

It does work and it works fine, better than most android boxes and Raspberry PIs, Plus no android box or Raspberry PI will allow me to connect a 6TB hdd with sata. So its far from dead

We just lost interest in your problem.

    Well no point replying then.

The replies are irrelevant to the question.

Does Libreelec support software overclocking on x86 ? a simple yes or no ( and if yes how ) would suffice.

OK, it was worth a try. It's the mix of GUI and video streaming that stresses the GPU (not the CPU).

Your idea of upgrading the CPU to get better LE speed doesn't work. It's as I said earlier: Don't invest into that old system.

I forgot to say that with "de-interlacing" off cpu usage is 8-10% and does not spike anymore along with the skipping of the sound ( but it maybe the video I used now, not that taxing on the cpu ). Does not seem like stress. Happens everywhere from low quality YT videos to high bitrate x265 HVEC.

Without the upgrade I could not play x265 HVEC, videos had low refresh rate and they skipped, after installing the Athlon II x3 420e x265 HVEC videos play smoothly. The upgrade did fix that. and the cost has like 10$.

The issue only appears when you hit the gear icon and go back to the menu, I am pretty sure its just a setting somewhere, if you have any more ideas let me know, I will keep trying to find a fix.

Libreelec detects the CPU as 800mhz instead of 2.6Ghz ( Bios detected the CPU fine ) does this have anything to do with the skipping ?. The upgrade to the new CPU DID allow me to play higher bitrate videos.

You can try some settings from this thread. Especially switch off "sync playback to display" and "de-interlacing".

I already had "sync playback to display" off. "de-interlacing" was on i disabled it nothing changed, maybe the audio starts to skip every 7 seconds now, or its just a placebo effect.

Watching a movie full screen ( and not in the background while navigating the settings ) is fine, the movie plays flawlessly

So what 's the need for overclocking? Videos will not be played any faster, and *maybe* menus could be 1-3% faster if you fiddle around with BIOS/memory settings. It's not worth it.

My Libreelec installation is fairly new just have 2-3 plugins installed. Some times if you load more plugins things slow down a bit, plus I would like to know the limits of the zino so I that I may download higher bitrate movies.

If there any software overlock I can do because the bios is locked does not have relevant settings. I always explore every possibility to squeeze more power from any of my computers.

    Hello

I have an old Dell inspiron Zino HD 400 that i have upgraded to 4gb ram and Athlon II x3 420E. Everything works fine I can watch flawlessly everything i download and its a big upgrade from the Ugoos UT4 android box i had before.

I was wondering if there are overclocking options inside Libreelec x86 like you can have for Raspberry PI. Also if there a way any plugin to check system temperatures in GUI.

    Thank you

    Chris

    Hello,

I have an old Dell inspiron Zino HD 400 that i have upgraded to 4gb ram and Athlon II x3 420E. Everything works fine I can watch flawlessly everything i download and its a big upgrade from the Ugoos UT4 android box i had before.

The issue is that while i am watching a movie if i quit full screen and go back to the menu while a movie is playing the sound skips every 3-5 secs. I checked the CPU usage normally its at 10-20% but when the sound skips the cpu jumps to 50-60%.

Any idea what is that all about ? I can give you any info you require to draw you conclusions, Let me know.

    Thank you

    Chris

    Major update:

The AMD Athlon II X3 420E CPU is here. I have installed it, applied new thermal paste, booted up the Zino CPU is detected fine and Libreelec is performing much better.

I can finally watch x265 HVEC movies properly instead of stuttering. So far everything is stable but will know soon enough if it mi-behaves because I use it every day.

Now I am still waiting for the HDD caddy and the mini-pcie WiFi card.

So far I am happy the Zino is a big upgrade from the Ugoos UT4 android box that I had before that was supposed to be 4K but it reality could not even play 1080p HVEC movies.

Preference for GPU vendor is #1 Intel > #2 AMD > #3 nVidia .. because nVidia does not support GBM (only their proprietary alernative, EGL streams) and Kodi does not support EGL Streams; so when we drop X11 support and use GBM/V4L2 on everything (hopefully for LE11) an nVidia card will not work with LE anymore. You'd still have the option to use Kodi under another distro, but not LE.

OK that explains why the hardware acceleration settings in KODI seem to work with the onboard graphics of the Zino.

The Pi does not have a SATA interface and I will have to use USB. I have done that in the past with different devices and it was not as reliable as SATA.

It would work most of the time but there were times that I would try to watch a movie only to find that the usb drive was disconnected and I need to unplug-replug it. Plus I have noticed that in some USB enclosure the HDDs spin constantly and don't power down when not in use this is not happening while connected to SATA.

So I made myself a tiny atom based NAS running CentOS and used it with my Ugoos Android box. Now it seems like a good idea to replace both those devices with the Zino ( Android + NAS = should be about the wattage of Zino )and so far the experience is better than what i previously had.

    Thanks for the help guys

So to sum up add on cards like the Broadcom Crystal HD Mini-PCIe are no longer supported and the only offloading the CPU can do is to a real not onboard Nvidia/AMD GPU.

    Correct ?

I don't have anything against old hardware, I just wouldn't invest more money into it.

If Full-HD is OK, then an RPi3B+ will do for most streaming services.

I just bought a CPU for 10$ and a HDD caddy for 5$ to replace the optical drive with a SSD. So now I can have a SSD for the OS and a 6TB drive for my movies. Everything else I already had.

I don't think a RPi3B+ will be any faster from the Zino for sure it will consume like 1/10th the power but I can't install my HDD in it. I am trying to consolidate things.

Really? That processor is more than 10 years old.

If you invest into a mini-PCI-e graphic card, you will still suffer from slow data bus. That's a bottleneck for modern media formats.

Better use your money for a new Intel NUC or an RPi4B, depending on the media standards you want to play.

It works very fast in general, boots faster than an android box with the SSD, and its more than fine for watching 1080p movies and I have ordered an Athlon II X3 420E for like 10$. HVEC is playing but skipping frames, this will be fixed with the new 420E cpu.

Without the upgrades it smokes the android ugoos UT4 I had before also it has space for a 3.5'' HDD where I can install my 6TB drive and will no longer need my NAS that was ON 24/7.

The whole experience is very pleasing even if its 10 years old and it works with all the movies I currently have. At the moment I don't need 4K. Plus repurposing it its FREE and it will replace my old android box + my NAS box.

    Hello,

I know that is an old post but its asimilar issue to what i am facing.

I just made a clean install of libreelec 9 with Kodi 18 and i no longer have passthrough audio.

The settings are missing and you can not enable the feature.

I have a WeTek Play 1 and it was working fine with version 8.2.5.

    My setup is as follows:

    * wetek via HDMI ---> TV

    * Phillips DVD Player used as AMP via optical and HDMI ---> TV

With this setup I could hear both the TV and the WeTek out of the surround speakers of the Phillips
    DVD Player

No changes made to the settings of the TV and also no changes in the cabling.

Also not in basic mode ( expert mode ) , sync Playback to Display is not selected and I don't have headphones connected.

I have done some research and it seems to be a KODI issue:

    Passthrough Changes with v17

They have dropped support for passthrough for devices that might produce loud, uncomfortable noise that can harm your ears.

The solution seems to be to use KODI "shitty" build " that's what they call it " and that version does not conform with the new "safety" regulation.

Is there a libreelec version with the shitty kodi build ? if no can there be one ? is there a patch for libreelec 9 ?

is there any other solution to my problem that I may be not aware ?

    Thanks

    Chris
