digital devices seems to be the same as vanilla
we are not overwriting "everything" just the parts that are different - so you have just these modules changed that are actually needed
if you use the dd addon you have "everything" like vanilla kernel just with an different module for some (4-5) modules
could you test an updated addon ? if so for which platform do you need it ?
Intel NUC Kit NUC6CAYH can handle everything (not sure about the 3D stuff) - everything "bigger" then this is just faster at the Kodi menu - the basic video playback support is the same.
Generally speaking buy cheap and replace often instead of buy expensive and carry it forever.

could you try if it works with LibreELEC 8.x images for additional dvb drivers
if you install no addon = pure vanilla kernel
you may try media_build too (driver from latest kernel backported)

These images are based at the current 8.1.1 tree (get updated to 8.2 as soon available).
Whats in:
- all different DVB drivers that are available in latest versions
- the possibility to update those drivers via an addon or install new drivers via addon
- drivers are managed at the addons (simply activate/deactivate)
Know problems:
- you can activate all addons -> could cause trouble
- after enable the addon you need to manually reboot instead of getting asked for "pls reboot" -> will be solved soonish

you could also add an usb stick to your RPi and backup to this stick (hopefully)

Yes this is likely the problem, OpenELEC used in the past a too small partition for the current image, if you just updated -> updated -> ... these partition is still the same.
Easiest way to fix it -> create an backup LE via LE Settings Addon (save all your data you might have at other places).
Do a fresh install, restore LE Backup via LE Settings Addon.
You can also move with gparted the partitions - but this takes a lot time and you have to know what you are doing
TVH 4.2 does not create a folder to store Live TV recordings
oh I see the problem, the folder is created if you enter the box via smb the first time, if you don't do it there is no folder

Can you try to build a 8.1.1 manually removing the entries for Cinergy S2 Rev.4 from dvbsky.c and adding them to dw2102.c
I currently building an image with several drivers included and the possibility to add drivers via addons (like we will have at LE9).
This should be ready today evening (if no fubar happens) and would make the whole thing a lot easier. Would create you an addon with that change then.
Tvh sees the device but can't tune it - maybe driver bug maybe wrong modules loaded.
Could you lsmod | pasteat the state when the stick is not working ?
I guess it hasn't load all modules.

the card/stick is known problematic - better get an proper one.
