On a fresh install, HDMI audio should work without additional settings. If it doesn't, go into audio settings, set the amount of output channels to 2.0 and enable pass-through for testing.

Don't forget to not upgrade to LE 10 Beta. Install from scratch.
On LE 10 Beta some HDMI settings are not editable at config.txt anymore. They moved to cmdline.txt with different syntax.
Also notice that audio doesn't work on HDMI and headphone jack at the same time. You have to select one exclusively.

To translate the answer a little bit:
LE 9.95.2 means LE 10 Beta. Don't forget to install this Beta from scratch - do not update your current LE version.
Your current Kodi version has known subtitle bugs. Some of them (hopefully all) are fixed at Kodi 19.1. Plans are to include Kodi 19.1 into LE 10 Final, so eventually you just have to wait to get the fix.
-
Since Kodi 19.1 has been released yesterday, will the next LE beta/rc already contain the changes since Kodi 19? If not, will the final LE 10 release be based on Kodi 19.1?
Current plans are that Kodi 19.1 will be part of the final LE 10.

Read here how to downgrade Widevine: Click!

PS: TV's often have a "picture mode" setting. Play around with those modes (set to "dynamic" or "auto").
-
On LE 9.x add hdmi_pixel_encoding=2 to config.txt. On LE 10+, this setting belongs to cmdline.txt (I still have to figure out the syntax for this).

Yes, this is a known pheno-menon (censored word
) on all RPi's. There is no brightness setting, but you can increase the color space (mode "RGB full") by changing hdmi_pixel_encoding. This can affect brightness. Not sure which LE version you use, so this setting belongs to config.txt (older versions) or cmdline.txt (newer versions).

Part of the picture is cut off at the maximum resolution of my TV. The solution is to switch to a lower resolution.
This could be a TV issue. Many TV's have picture optimization modes, who blow up the picture size beyond the edges. This effect can be more intense, the higher the resolution is. Search for such a mode on your TV's picture settings, and switch it off.

Select the "InputStream Helper" add-on (at user add-ons -> program add-ons).
Select "Configure".
Downgrade to the former (working) Widevine version.

svenfoo Read post #5 again. HiFiBerry is offering supported audio HAT's. If you want a more universal hardware, go for an HDMI audio extractor.

Is MVC no longer supported?

You can increase the log level (1 or 2 will be fine) by editing your existing advancedsettings.xml. It's worth to comment out all other tags inside <advancedsettings> for testing.
