I just wanted to chip in on the 4K issue. I've taken a look at getting a fully working device tree for LibreElec before, and I can confirm that the I2C communication on HDMI is broken when I checked last september. I wanted to get CEC working, but it seems that with FriendlyElec's default settings the wrong clocks are set. This prevents the T4/M4 reading the screens EDID and therefore only showing 'safe' frequencies and resolutions.

Now that the 5.x device tree files are in mainline Linux, maybe I can see what they changed in this regard and backport it to the current LibreElec builds.

Hello, so i have a question around this point. Is there no way to somehow "disable" the safe mode feature, or better force it to use 33840 x 2160?

How do you update the existing LibreELEC to the new version without losing everything already installed? I'm still new and want to update but don't want to install everything again.

    Thank you.

Copy the TAR file not the IMG.GZ file to the updates folder..

to access the folder, open up the share - \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\ you should see the "Update" folder there.. just drop the new TAR file in there and reboot the device..

Do you have any 4k entries in your kodi 'whitelist'??

Go to settings, display and see if you have any whitelist entries. If not, click on whitelist and activate the 3840 entries and try again. I thought that you did not need these entries to play 4k, but it's worth a go. Just activate all resolutions that you need (usually the 1920x1080 and 3840x2160 ones)

No i do not have any 3840 entries in the whitelist.. this is my problem... i think Libreelec is not configured at an OS level to use 3840 res.

so i just tail the kodi logs and saw this..

    hey JerryPenguin ,

Can i please ask you to test my problems listed above? what is your device connected to? Directly to 4k tv/display? Do you see 3840 x 2160 pixels in the display options or when playing a 4k file (system info when playing 4k file)?

    Hello all,

I just wanted to check if there is a fix out for the NanoPi M4/T4? currently I'm running (nightly-20190321-9ab3d68 (RK3399.arm) The issue is that the Max resolution i can set on this build is 1920x1080p. It is connected directly to my Sony KD-65x8505C TV. I can please 4k files but the resolution is always staying @ 1920x1080p. I have described in more detail my issue here. Link.

    Can anyone help?

Hey Mario.D so here is a link where you can download some test content (if needed) Link.

So i did some tests last night. when i play a 4K movie file, i hit the information widow and see that Kodi is stating that the resolution is 1920x1080p@60Hz. so this means that Kodi is actually downscaling 4K content to 1920x1080p.

When i go to Settings - Display i can set the GUI limit to "unlimited" and then is still only see the display resolution maxing out 2 1920x1080p.

So my real question here is where under the bonnet can i set the resolution to more than 1920x1080p?

Ok, thanks for this. So i have done some more research and it seems that the Kodi GUI is limited to 1920x1080p and this is the max resolution you can get out of Kodi GUI (which is not bad otherwise you might struggle to see what you doing). I need to check later whether or not the resultion automatically changes when you select to play a 4K movie. I was able to play 4K movie files but they were a little choppy.

Mario.D , can i ask you to test playing a standard 4K MKV/any local 4K file. Once its playing can you please follow these instructions? and take a photo of the outputs?

    Appreciate the help.

So, i am currently running (nightly-20190315-0fa0712 (RK3399.arm) on my NanoPi M4-2GB version.

    Issues found:

    • Kodi GUI not supporting 4K resolution - Whitelist only shows following resolution options.
      • 1280x720p60,1920x1080p60, 1920x1080p50,1280x720p50, 720x576p50, 720x480p60
    • Plays 4K mkv's (2160P UHD BluRay HDR10 REMUX HEVC DOLBY ATMOS TrueHD 7 1)
      • @1920x1080p resolution, and video playback is slightly jittery.
    • Wi-Fi adapter not recognised
    • CEC not working when using TV remote to control Kodi.

    More to follow.

Not on a 4K yet cause I'm still configuring it, but I have played 4K video with no issues via YouTube. I have a 4K TV and eventually will connect to just play, but the true reason for this build is to connect to a projector for projecting onto a 90" screen.

Can i please ask you to test it connected to a 4K display? If go into settings -> Display, what options are whitelisted and what resolution options can you select?
